Background. Simulation-based training is an effective, and therefore increasingly widespread, tool used in the teaching and assessment of complex skills. In order to determine the effectiveness of the virtual classroom simulators used in teacher training, there is a need for studies into user experiences, within the scope of human-computer interaction, which provide an indicator of software usability. Aim. The aim of this study was to examine the experiences of teacher candidates and academics in the use of SimInClass, a game-based virtual classroom simulator. Method. 16 senior teacher candidates and two academics, determined by the criterion sampling method, participated in the case study which involved a focus group interview, one-on-one interviews, and observation techniques. The case study centered around a 14-week teacher training program which used the SimInClass simulation. Data related to user experiences was analyzed independently by two researchers, and the fit index between the data encoders was calculated as being 0.94. Results and Conclusion. The participants who preferred to use the SimInClass simulation on a computer said they did so because of user input, usage control and screen size, while those who favored using a mobile device pointed to the easy access. All of the participants felt that the SimInClass simulation was effective in providing clear directions and giving feedback. One suggestion was that the simulation should give clues regarding the correct solution, while some users felt that it needed to be made more accessible for different disciplines. Despite some reservations and suggestions of this type, the overall impression of the test subjects was that the use of virtual classroom simulators in teacher training was effective.
In this study, it was aimed to determine the errors and misunderstandings of 5th and 6th grade middle school students in fractions and operations with fractions. For this purpose, the case study model, which is a qualitative research design, was used in the research. In the study, maximum diversity sampling, which is a purposeful sampling method, was used. For this reason, this study was conducted in a state and a private secondary school on a voluntary basis with 105 5th graders and 84 6th graders, with a total of 189 secondary school students from different levels of achievement. In order to determine students' errors and misconceptions about fractions, two tests were prepared by researchers, ten open-ended questions for 5th graders and twelve open-ended questions for 6th graders. Before these tests were formed, the related field was scanned and the existing misunderstandings were determined. Content analysis method was used on the analyzing of the data. The answer papers of the students were coded and students' solving were examined in three categories as correct, wrong and blank. In addition to this the solving belongs to wrong category was examined in detail and mistakes of the students were coded and the reason of these mistakes were dwelled on. It is seen from the result of the study that students have misunderstanding and mistakes about fractions. It is seen that students are not using the modellings on the operations with fractions because of that most of the mistake and misunderstandings are about operations with fractions.
Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak, Torrance Yaratıcı Düşünme Testi (TYDT) Sözel A Formu-Şekilsel A formu kullanılmıştır. Deneysel uygulama öncesi ve sonrasında deney ve kontrol gruplarına test uygulanmıştır. Verilerin betimsel analizleri, ön test ve son test puanlarının gruba göre U-Testi Sonuçları ayrıca deney ve kontrol gruplarına TYDT alt boyut puanlarının wilcoxon işaretli sıralar testleri yapılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular, deney grubundaki öğretmen adaylarının TYDT tüm alt boyutlarından aldıkları deney öncesi ve sonrası puanlar arasında anlamlı farklılığın olduğunu göstermektedir. Ayrıca TYDT alt boyutları; sözel esneklik, sözel orijinallik ile sözel toplam ve şekilsel toplam son test puanlarının gruba göre sıra ortalamaları deney grubu lehine anlamlı farklılık göstermiştir.
Present study investigates the senior-level Turkish pre-service and inservice teachers' perceptions of teacher quality with a descriptive survey method. Data for this study were gathered through Teacher Quality Survey (TQS) and openended questions from 210 pre-service teachers enrolled in four different universities in Turkey and 147 in-service teachers from different majors. Results of the study showed that both pre-service and in-service teachers think that teachers' relationship with the students affect students' success and teachers should take the individual differences into consideration. Moreover, according to the pre-service teachers, teachers should know how to teach and assess what they teach, and they need to know time management. On the other hand, in-service teachers consider that teachers should follow current developments, should have the researcher identity and should understand students' needs and interests. Present study also suggested both academic and practical implications.
