The Patient hctivity Checklist (PAC) is proposed 88 a prototype for more objective and situation-specific measurements of behavior. The PAC includes 24 overt behavior categories ranging from inappropriate-disturbed-isolated behavior to appropriate-task-interactive behavior. Scores are based upon a series of instantaneous time-samples obtained in "free-play" hospital behavior settings. Inter-observer and inter-judge reliabilities are quite high and odd-even and testretest measures of patients' behaviors are quite adequate. Concurrent and predictive validity are demonstrated in a series of recent experiments: PAC scores (a) are significantly related to independent measures of clinical pathology, (b) show significant changes due to modifications of both the physical and social environments, and (c) demonstrate the behavioral basis of geographic associations and friendship choices.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
