Communication skills and use of technology are considered among the pillars to the teaching effectiveness and facilitation of teachers in the digital age. Both of these elements have been identified as a skill and knowledge that is vital to be mastered by most teachers especially generation X. Therefore, this concept paper discusses teachers’ strategies in the implementation of taeching and learning process (TLP) of Arabic through Social Media Assisted Language Learning (SMALL). This article explains the challenges and importances of using current technology among teachers when virtually implementing TLP. The findings of this study suggest that teachers who teach traditionally need to correct weaknesses in communication skills and technology application first. Teachers cannot avoid following the current changes of TLP of this new era because the demands and needs of technology in education are constantly changing over time. This is because it will be more difficult in the event of a push where TLP is conducted online such as the occurrence of natural disasters and disease outbreaks. Thus, training on the use of technology should be continuously implemented so that the teaching objectives can be achieved optimally and students feel excited to follow the class. Communication skill is a vital element that every teacher needs to master when conducting teaching activity. Nonverbal communication (NVC) has been identified as an element in teaching skills that helps teachers to improve the quality of their teachings as well as the students' interest and motivation. Hence, this study is conducted to explore the mastery and practices of non-option trainee teachers in NVC skills in teaching Arabic. This study adopted a qualitative approach through observation and document analysis as the main instrument of the study. Seven participants from Islamic Education program at Selangor International Islamic University College were involved in this study. Those semester six trainee teachers are currently undergoing training at schools. The data was analyzed using NVIVO software to elicit appropriate themes in order to determine the importance of NVC skills in teaching. The finding showed that trainee teachers were lack of NVC skills while conducting Arabic teaching. The implication of the study suggests that NVC should be made as communication elements that must be mastered by trainee teachers and applied in teachers’ training program. Also, a specific course on NVC needs to be designed by institutions that offer educational program out of their obligatory courses. This skill not only enhances the competency of non-option trainees in Arabic teaching but also becomes added value to them as Arabic is not their major program. Abstrak Kemahiran komunikasi merupakan suatu elemen penting yang perlu dikuasai oleh setiap guru ketika melaksanakan aktiviti pengajaran. Komunikasi Bukan Lisan (KBL) telah dikenalpasti sebagai satu elemen dalam kemahiran mengajar yang membantu guru mempertingkatkan kualiti pengajaran serta minat dan motivasi murid. Justeru, kajian ini dijalankan untuk meneroka penguasaan guru pelatih bukan opsyen dalam kemahiran KBL dan amalannya dalam pengajaran Bahasa Arab. Kajian ini berbentuk kualitatif yang dilaksanakan melalui kaedah pemerhatian dan analisis dokumen sebagai instrumen. Peserta kajian melibatkan tujuh orang guru pelatih semester enam program Diploma Perguruan Pendidikan Islam, Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor yang sedang menjalani latihan praktikum di sekolah. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan perisian NVIVO untuk mendapatkan tema-tema yang sesuai bagi menentukan kepentingan kemahiran KBL dalam pengajaran tersebut. Dapatan menunjukkan guru pelatih kurang menguasai kemahiran KBL ketika melaksanakan pengajaran Bahasa Arab. Implikasi kajian pula menjelaskan bahawa KBL seharusnya dijadikan elemen komunikasi yang wajib dikuasai oleh guru pelatih dan perlu diterapkan ke dalam program pendidikan guru. Satu kursus spesifik tentang KBL perlu dibina oleh pihak institusi yang menawarkan program pendidikan untuk guru pelatih semasa mereka mengikuti program perguruan tersebut. Kemahiran ini bukan sahaja dapat meningkatkan kompetensi guru pelatih dalam pengajaran Bahasa Arab malah memberi nilai tambah kepada mereka kerana Bahasa Arab bukan opsyen pilihan.
Dalam pembelajaran bahasa kedua, kaedah pembelajaran yang sempurna menjadi keperluan kepada pelajar untuk mencapai matlamat mereka dalam menguasai bahasa yang dipelajari. Pelbagai strategi telah dikenal pasti dalam usaha untuk mencapai kaedah pembelajaran bahasa kedua yang baik. Kajian strategi pembelajaran yang dilakukan sebelum ini lebih tertumpu kepada kaedah pembelajaran kosa kata dan bahasa secara menyeluruh. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengenal pasti relevansi penerapan strategi kognitif dalam pembelajaran bahasa kedua dan menentukan impak penerapan strategi kognitif dalam penguasaan kosa kata dalam bahasa kedua pelajar. Kajian ini menggunakan reka bentuk kualitatif yang menerapkan pendekatan analisis dokumen yang dihurai secara deskriptif. Dapatan kajian mendapati bahawa strategi kognitif wajar dipraktikkan dalam proses pembelajaran kosa kata kerana mempunyai tahap relevansi yang tinggi. Walau bagaimanapun tumpuan kepada penekanan dan penggunaan pelajar terhadap strategi kognitif berada pada tahap sederhana. Namun begitu hasil daripada tinjauan literatur mendapati strategi kognitif dalam pembelajaran kosa kata bahasa kedua boleh membantu pelajar dari segi pembelajaran, penguasaan dan pengukuhan sesuatu bahasa tersebut.
Arabic vocabulary consists of nouns, verbs and particle words. This vocabulary belongs to standalone language group, a symbol to a certain meaning and comes from a single morpheme. The particles in linguistic field is one of the words in Arabic other than nouns and verbs. The noun and verb have their own meanings and can stand alone in a sentence. However, the particles cannot function at all if they are not joined with noun or verb in the sentence. The particles also give a variety of functions and meanings, depending on the meaning of the word. This study reveals the meaning, function, type, language form and translation method through qualitative methods with document analysis on Kamus Idris Al-Marbawi (KIAM) dan Kamus Besar Arab Melayu Dewan (KBAMD). The findings revealed that there are differences between translation of KIAM and KBAMD, that there are some particles that are not translated by KBAMD and there are also differences in terms of the number of meanings of each particle generated by both dictionaries. Thus, it is hoped that this study will contribute to the new findings on lexicography studies in Arabic language and particles in particular. This study would also have a positive impact on linguistic study of Arabic in terms of grammar, translation, and even other studies related to Malay writers' thoughts and cultures. ABSTRAK Perkataan dalam bahasa Arab terdiri daripada kata nama, kata kerja dan kata partikel. Perkataan ini adalah daripada kumpulan bahasa yang boleh berdiri dengan sendiri, simbol kepada makna tertentu dan berasal daripada morfem tunggal. Kata partikel dalam ilmu linguistik merupakan salah satu jenis perkataan dalam bahasa Arab selain daripada kata nama dan kata kerja. Kata nama dan kata kerja mempunyai makna tersendiri dan boleh berdiri dengan sendiri dalam sesuatu ayat. Walaubagaimanapun, kata partikel tidak berfungsi sama sekali jika diletak bersendirian dalam ayat. Kata partikel juga memberi fungsi dan makna yang pelbagai, bergantung kepada makna yang ingin disampaikan. Kajian ini mendedahkan setiap makna, fungsi, jenis, laras bahasa dan gaya terjemahan kata partikel melalui kaedah kualitatif dengan analisis dokumen terhadap Kamus Idris Al-Marbawi (KIAM) dan Kamus Besar Arab Melayu Dewan (KBAMD). Dapatan menemui terdapat perbezaan antara laras bahasa KIAM dan KBAMD, ada kata partikel yang tidak diterjemah oleh KBAMD serta wujud perbezaan antara bilangan makna setiap kata partikel yang dihasilkan oleh kedua-dua kamus ini. Demikian, ia diharap dapat menyumbang kepada hasil dapatan baharu terhadap kajian leksikografi dalam dunia bahasa Arab amnya dan kata partikel khususnya. Ia juga dilihat akan dapat memberi impak positif dalam kajian linguistik bahasa Arab terhadap aspek fungsi sesuatu kaedah nahu, terjemahan, bahkan kajian lain berkaitan pemikiran dan budaya penulis Melayu.
