Although the number of patients was small, offering EVAR to as many patients as possible with ruptured AAA has resulted in a 20% reduction in mortality, albeit statistically insignificant. However, it is in the unstable patients that EVAR will need to improve survival before it may be hailed to supersede the conventional approach.
This study suggests that ruptured AAAs treated with stent-graft experience sac regression at a higher rate compared with electively treated AAA. The reasons for these findings remain unclear.
