Apesar de a Amazônia ser rica em recursos hídricos, suapopulação tem dificuldade no acesso à água potável. O abastecimentode água nas ilhas de Belém (PA) é deficitário. Alternativas locais quegarantam o acesso à água em quantidade e qualidade adequadas sãograndes desafios. O objetivo deste artigo é apresentar uma experiênciaintegradora de dois programas de pós-graduação na implementaçãode alternativas de aproveitamento da água de chuva para fins potáveisa fim de contribuir com a sustentabilidade do abastecimento local. Acaracterização socioeconômica e o diagnóstico do abastecimentode água subsidiaram a implantação dos sistemas. Verificou-se asustentabilidade por meio da aceitabilidade e do acesso ao sistema,dos impactos financeiros e dos padrões qualitativos da água. Deforma geral, são modelos positivos de abastecimento de água parapopulações ribeirinhas da Amazônia.
