The Preneolithic Stone Artefact of Leang Jarie Site: The Oldest Evidence of Maros Point Technology in the Toalean Culture Region, South Sulawesi. Maros Point is one type of flake tool that shows characteristics of the techno-complex Toalean from South Sulawesi. Early emergence of the Toalean Culture phase is still debated, but most experts agree that this tool only appeared no more than 4000 years ago and is positioned include with pottery or Neolithic period. The Maros Point is considered to be made by the early occupants of Sulawesi after the arrival and contact with Austronesian speakers migration in South Sulawesi. The problem is that the results of the latest research are contrary to previous opinions. This paper aims to show new evidence of excavation at the Leang Jarie Site, as the oldest Maros Point technology ca. 8,000 years ago in the Toalean Cultural Region. Maros Point is made simpler with the support flake without using reduction pattern of flake-blade technology. Flakes with an asymmetrical shape can also be utilized as long as it have a pointed and thin tip. The "backed" retouched technique is also used to maximize flakes with steep sharp edges. Thus, the phase of Toalean Culture compiled by previous studies needs to be reviewed and the presence of Maros Points can no longer be used as a marker of the youngest phase. Maros Point is produced from the early holocene or Preneolithic Period and has possibility its continuation until Neolithic period.
This study aims to provide a description of the fauna that once interacted with a human in the Bontocani karst Area in Bone District. Of the few excavated sites providing data availability of bone fragments that can be analyzed by conducting comparative studies with existing faunal composition of the fauna. The method of data collection is by excavation at some sites in this Karst Area. The results of this study document a wide range of vertebrates in the Balang Metti fauna including fish, frogs/toads, lizards, snakes, birds, Strigocuscus, Ailurops ursinus, insectivorous bats, Sulawesi monkeys, rats, Sulawesi pigs, babirusa and Anoa. In some layers of culture, the absence of anoa, indicates the environmental change from the environment of the fields and the weeds to the wet rain forest environment around the site, along with the extinction of this fauna. Based on the identified fauna bone analysis, it is illustrated that past habitats and environments in Bontocani Karst area have not changed much.
Balang Metti cave is one of the prehistoric sites that found in the Pattuku AbstrakGua Balang Metti adalah salah satu situs gua yang ditemukan di kawasan budaya prasejarah Pattuku, Kabupaten Bone.
The purpose of this study is to provide an explanation of the physical aspect reconstruction effort one of the human skeletal findings that once bathed the Maros karst area. The results of excavations in 2018 and 2019 found a human skeleton at the Leang Jarie Site (LJ-1) associated with the Toalian techonology stone tools and Austronesian earthenware, with age 2700 BP. Morphometric analysis of the LJ-1 framework on the skeletal part that remains and can be recognized, known that the sex is a male aged 35-40 years with a height of 166 cm, originating from the Austronetian nation. This framework is considered as important data and evidence of human presence as ancestors of the inhabitants of the Maros cultural region, which provides evidence of the relationship between the Austromelanes race (the Toalian people) and the Mongoloid race (Austronesian people). the technology found in one context with this framework is bone artifacts in the form of Bone point, Maros point, mollusca shell kitchen waste and some pottery fragments. The results of this study can provide a new perspective on racial interactions (Austromelanesoid with Austronesian) in the past.
