Advanced-stage NSCLC with NE tumor cells are clinically less aggressive tumors. Percentage of NE-differentiated tumor cells identifies patients with favourable therapy response to paclitaxel-cisplatin.
Brain metastases are often site of recurrence in patients with NSCLC (IIIA-N2). Autonomous risk factors for brain metastases in this group of patients are non-squamous NSCLC, N1-N2 nodal status, postoperative radiotherapy without preoperative radiotherapy.
Children up to two years of age with atopy are more frequently infected with RSV (43.3%) than nonatopic children. Every third child with atopy develops BHR and 77.8% of them also have RSV infection. Atopic children are at higher risk for development of BHR when infected with RSV also.
The aims of the study were to estimate the prevalence of excessive weight in infants and school-age children in Sarajevo Canton, to isolate the main causative agents and to propose a strategy for its efficient prevention. The methods included anthropometry and originally designed questionnaire. Calculated body mass index was classified according to the criteria proposed by Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The research included 3608 students from elementary and secondary schools from Sarajevo Canton. Nearly 1/5 of subjects had excessive body weight while 12.49% of students were malnourished. Elementary school lower graders had the highest grade of excessive weight, while the secondary school students exhibited the lowest grade of excessive weight. During school hours, about 42.47% of students were fed on bakery produces and snacks. Non-sparkling, thickened juices are frequently consumed beverages (20.65%), second only to water (51.82%). 58.15% of children consume sweets on daily basis. This is even more prominent among secondary school students (80.85%). Only 1/3 of students practice sports on daily basis, while 8.51% of them rarely engage in sports. Elementary school lower grade students had the lowest level of activity while the secondary school students were the most active. As many as 27.56% students spend two hours or more sitting by the computer or TV set. The most significant mediators of excessive weight gain are sedentary life-style, frequent consumption of sweets and thickened juices and unsuitable nutrition during school hours. Continuous preventive and therapeutically activities must be undertaken among as wide population as possible.
The high sensitivity of Fanconi’s anemia (FA) cells to drug induced DNA interstrand crosslinks (ICL) such as diepoxybutane (DEB) was used as a part of FA screening in the children with clinical suspicion of FA. The study considered a total of 66 children with the hematological and/or congenital phenotypic symptoms reminiscent of FA. Blood samples from patients with clinical suspicion of FA and controls were collected for chromosome fragility evaluation by the DEB test. According to the results of DEB test, the patients were divided into two subgroups: FA displaying typical DEB sensitive cellular response and non FA.In this study, 10 out of 66 patients were found to have a FA cellular phenotype. The percentage of DEB-induced aberrant cells was increased more than 26 times in FA patients (range 22.00–82.00% with a mean of 48.32%) when compared to non FA patients (range 0.00–12.00% with a mean of 1.84%). The number of DEB-induced breaks/cells was more than 68 times higher in FA patients (range 0.26–4.39 with a mean of 1.37 breaks/cell) when compared to non FA patients (range 0.00–0.20 with a mean of 0.02 breaks/cell). The spontaneous chromosome fragility values in FA patients were overlapping those in non FA patients. Our results indicate that the DEB sensitivity test is the most reliable in vitro method for verification of the FA cellular phenotype.
Almost 20% of two-year-old children have any of clinically manifested allergic diseases, with atopic dermatitis and IgE wheeze/asthma being predominant. The higher total IgE antibodies concentration is a good marker for sensitization in children with allergy-like symptoms.
It is necessary to introduce comprehensive procedures for prevention of MAPLs, particularly in high-risk groups. Identification of the risk factors for MAPLs and prevention of their influence on vocal professionals (given that their income depends on their vocal ability) is of the highest importance.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
