The need to improve measurement in research of violence against women has been recognized. The purpose of this study was introduced first psychometric data of two questionnaires assessing sexist attitudes on Brazilian women: Double Standard Scale (DSS) and Rape Supportive Attitude Scale (RSAS). Both scales were administered in two women samples (N = 300; N = 500). In accordance with previous research, the findings reproduced the single-factor structure on each scale. Reliability estimation through Cronbach' s alpha evidenced satisfactory internal consistency values for each scale. Finally, evidence that supports the measurement validity of the DSS and the RSAS was also provided.Key words: Double standard, rape, attitude, reliability, validity.
Beliefs about love and jealousy can be variables that influence violence against women. The aim of our reproduction of a United States study was to compare our data with those of the original study regarding the acceptance of violence related to jealousy. A total of 264 college students participated in the study. They heard and assessed two audio recordings ("jealousy" and "no jealousy"), but half heard situations in which the husband beat his wife and half situations in which the husband does not beat his wife. After each audio recording, participants answered six questions, among them: "how much the husband loves his wife" and "how long would the relationship last". It was observed that, aggression, in the case of "no jealousy", showed to have a negative meaning both in the United States study and in the present study, which was not observed in the case of "jealousy". It may be concluded that violence against women is a cultural practice in Brazil and that social rules regarding male honor, female submission and jealousy exert influence on this practice. Keywords: Jealousy; Love; Violence against women -Brazil. 526N. Palavras-chave: Violência contra as mulheres; violência por parceiro íntimo; habilidades sociais conjugais; habilidades sociais; relacionamento conjugal ABSTRACT Development of social skills of women in situation of violence by intimate partners: a theoretical studyThe development of satisfactory interpersonal relationships has contributed decisively to quality of life and psychological health. Otherwise, difficulties in maintaining relationships in a healthy way and using conflict resolution strategies favors the use of behaviors that deteriorate the marital relationship, such as violence against women. Staying in abusive relationship is related to several physical and psychological damages. The absence of denunciations of these cases tends to be linked to multiple factors (social skills (SS) deficits, emotional, financial, institutional and cultural rules). The purpose of this study is to demonstrate that the development of SS in women in violent relationships constitutes a resource for the recognition of relationships that violate basic human rights and assist decision making in coping with abusive relationships. It is considered that the use of SS and marital SS (MSS) contributes to management and conflict resolution, favor relationships that are satisfactory and socially competent. Thus, MSS training is a tool that can help women in violent situations to denounce their partner and to finish the violence cycle.
