KEYWORDSThis article presents our research concerning the synthesis of new thiophene-thiourea derivatives (1-12) and their pharmacological properties. These novel thiophene-thiourea derivatives were synthesized and characterized by IR, 1 H and 13 C NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and elemental analysis. The crystal structure of N,N-diphenyl-N'-(thiophene-2carbonyl)-thiourea was determined from single crystal X-ray diffraction data. It crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21 with unit cell dimensions of a=11.7469(5) Å, b=6.0849(2) Å, c=12.5792(6) Å, β= 117.736(7) ° and V = 795.8(6) Å 3 . The intervening barrier to produce hydrogen from water is the frustratingly slow kinetics of the water splitting reaction. In addition, insufficient understanding of the key obstacle of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is an obstruction to perceptive design of efficient OER electrocatalysts. In this research, we present synthesis, characterization, and electrochemical evaluation of nickel oxide/nickel sulfide (NiO/NiS) heterostructures and its counterparts nickel oxide (NiO) and nickel sulfide (NiS) as low-cost electrocatalysts for electrochemical water splitting. These electrocatalysts have been characterized using powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The NiO/NiS is found to be highly efficient and stable electrocatalyst, which initiates the OER at an amazingly low potential of 1.42 V (vs RHE). The NiO/NiS electrocatalyst provides a current density of 40 mA cm–2 at 209 mV overpotential for OER in 1.0 M KOH with a Tafel slope of 60 mV dec–1, outperforming its counterparts (NiO and NiS) under same electrochemical conditions. These results are better than those of benchmark Ni-based and even noble metal-based electrocatalysts. The continued oxygen generation for several hours with an applied potential of 1.65 V (vs RHE) reveals the long-term stability and activity of NiO/NiS electrocatalyst toward OER. This development provides an attractive non-noble metal, highly efficient, and stable electrocatalyst toward OER.

KEYWORDSNickel and copper metal complexes of N-(R-carbamothioyl)-4-nitrobenzamide (R = diphenyl and ethylbutyl) were synthesized and characterized by IR, 1 H NMR, mass spectrometry and elemental analysis. The spectroscopic data are consistent with the ligand and the metal complexes containing two O and S chelated ligands. N-(diphenylcarbamothioyl)-4nitrobenzamide, HL 1 , was characterized by a single crystal X-ray diffraction study. It crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1 with unit cell dimensions of a = 6.8044(4) Å, b = 10.0113(6) Å, c = 13.2365(8) Å, α = 6.8044(4) °, β = 78.171(4) °, γ = 13.2365(8)°, V = 882.43(9) Å 3 . The ligands coordinate as bidentates yielding essentially neutral complexes of the type [ML2]. Abstract:

The title compound, C14H10BrN3O3S, crystallizes as two concomitant polymorphs that differ in colour (one yellow and one colourless). Only the structure of the colourless form could be determined. The mol­ecule exists in the thio­amide form with an intra­molecular N—H⋯O=C hydrogen bond across the thio­urea system. Mol­ecules are linked into layers parallel to (120) by Br⋯Onitro contacts [3.103 (1) Å], classical hydrogen bonds from the other NH function to the S atom and Nnitro⋯O=C contacts. The layers are linked by weak C—H⋯Onitro hydrogen bonds to produce the observed three-dimensional network.

Five commercial pit additive products were examined for effectiveness of controlling the release of odorous and volatile compounds from swine manure, pH, volatile fatty acids, total solids, total volatile solids, total N, and total ammonia N were monitored, and levels of aerial ammonia and hydrogen sulfide were measured. Odor thresholds were determined by a dynamic triangle forced‐choice olfactometer. The five products tested reduced the odor thresholds from 58 to 87% as compared with control samples. Three of the five products showed significant reductions in volatile fatty acids (34–44%; P < 0.05). Correlation analysis showed that the odor threshold is not correlated with volatile fatty acids concentrations existing in the swine manure (coefficient of correlation: r = 0.16). Malodor could be produced by certain types of volatile fatty acids not necessarily present in high concentrations. The abatement of ammonia emission from swine manure was not determined in this study due to low pH values for both the treated and control samples.
