Mit 4 Figuren im TextDie in den letzten Jahren ausgefuhrten Untersuchungen auf dem Gebiete der seltenen Erden haben einerseits unsere Kenntnis physikalischer Art, insbesondere uber den Aufbau der Atome in dieser Elementengruppe wesentlich vertieft, andererseits haben dieselben aber auch erkennen lessen, daB das chemische Verhalten der Lanthanide kein so gleichformiges ist, wie man fruher, als man sich hauptsachlich noch mit der Isolierung und Reindarstellung der einzelnen Glieder der Reihe beschtiftigen muBte, anzunehmen geneigt war. Es zeigte sich, daB einzelne Elemente neben den bestandigen dreiwertigen Formen auch Verbindungen zu bilden vermogen, in welchen djeselben in anderen Wertigkeitsstufen auftreten. Wiihrend die hoheren Stufen beim Cer, Praseodym und Terbium seit langem bekannt, aber nur beim Cer abschlieBend untersucht sind, hat man sich in der letzten Zeit besonders mit den Verbindungen beschaftigt, in welchen Samarium, Europium und Ytterbium zweiwertig auftreten. Insbesondere wurden salzartige Stoffe und von diesen die Chloride und teilweise auch die Bromide untersucht. Die Karbide dagegen, in welchen man gleichfalls zweiwertige Erden angenommen hat, bedurfen, trotz der in der letzten Zeit erzielten Fortschritte, noch weiterer Aufklarung.Um die bisherigen Erfahrungen uber den Aufbau der (111)-Halo-genide2) zu erganzen, haben wir uns mit den Jodiden beschaftigt
