The purpose of these studies was to analyse and compare the content of bromine in samples of chicken eggs, feed, and water from different regions of Ukraine in the dynamics of 2016 – 2020: with an increased risk of bromine in products (Kharkiv, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk and Mykolaiv regions) and outside the risk zone (Volyn, Vinnytsia and Zaporizhzhia). Studies of bromine content in eggs, feed, and water were performed in the laboratory of toxicological monitoring of the National Scientific Center "Institute of Experimental and Clinical Veterinary Medicine" (Kharkiv) using X-ray fluorescence analysis. As a result of the conducted researches, the increase of the bromine content in chicken eggs in the dynamics of 2016 – 2020 was established: the bromine content increased regardless of the region of the poultry farm location. The highest bromine concentration in chicken eggs was found in Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, and Zaporizhia regions. Bromine source in poultry products is the excessive intake of bromine in the poultry body with alimentary environmental factors (feed and water). Bromine content in feed for chickens increased in the research dynamics (from 35.1% in the Poltava region to 2.5 times in the Zaporizhzhia region). It exceeded the established EFSA (4.4% of the total) and the average in Ukraine (51.2% of the total number of samples). In addition, the average bromine content in feed from poultry farms of the studied regions of Ukraine correlated with the number of registered and approved bromine-containing pesticides. The average bromine concentration in water sources in the studied regions of Ukraine had no significant differences compared to the beginning of the study but exceeded the maximum allowable concentration by 21.7% in 2016, 34.8% in 2018 and 39.1% in 2020. The maximum bromine concentration was in water sources in Mykolayiv, Kharkiv, and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
The article describes the histological characteristics of the skin of clinically healthy domestic dogs and cats, presents morphometric data on the thickness of the skin, layers of the epidermis, the area of the sebaceous glands and hair follicles; describes sexual and seasonal skin replacements in domestic dogs and cats, common in the east of Ukraine. The material for research is the skin of clinically healthy dogs and cats. Research method is histological. Punch-biopsy of skin fragments was performed in animals on the right from the middle of the lateral surface of the back. Fragments of skin after fixation in 10 % neutral formalin were examined by paraffin, followed by staining of slides with hematoxylin-eosin and by gelatin impregnation, staining with Sudan II, hematoxylin of Karachi. In horizontal and vertical skin sections, the following was investigated: the thickness of the epidermis, papillary and reticular layers, the length and width of the sweat and sebaceous glands, follicle of the hair, the location of hair bundles and the ratio of secondary follicles to primary ones. The histological characteristics of skin and derivatives in dogs and cats have been established. The information obtained from morphometric histostudies indicates significant fluctuations in the values in cats depending on the season; the difference in skin thickness in winter and summer reached 1407 μM and had the same parameters in females and males. The papillary and reticular layers of the dermis correlated with the total skin thickness as 53.9 and 60.3 % in winter and 45.4 and 38.7% in summer, respectively. Epidermal seasonal changes were less significant. The papillary layer of the skin of the domestic cat was more developed than the reticular layer, in contrast to the dogs. The area of the basal sebaceous glands in cats averaged 0.05 mm2 in summer and 0.013 mm2 in winter. In domestic dogs, skin thickness and hair density did not depend on seasonal changes, but on the sex of the animals; in females, the skin was on average 496 + 183 microns thick, and the density was not significantly higher than in males. The area of the sebaceous glands averaged 0,020 mm2 in dog, in cats 0.013 mm2 in summer and in winter – 0.05 mm2.
The purpose of these studies was to determine status of metabolic processes in clinically healthy horses of sport breeds in spring period. Blood samples for biochemical studies were collected from 12 clinically healthy 7–9 month-old stallions of Ukrainian horse breed at Dnipropetrovsk region equestrian club. Protein (albumin, globulin, urea and creatinine) and mineral (common calcium and inorganic phosphorus) metabolic statuses, level of glucose, vitamins A and E and acid, as well as activity of hepatospecific enzymes (ALT, AST and AP) were determined using common techniques. It has been found that common protein level was within the limits of physiologic norm, although the level of albumins was decreased at the average rate of 12.0%, and the level of β- and γ-globulins was increased at the average rates of 5.2 and 11.3% respectively. AST activity was decreased at the rate of 38.0% regarding to physiological norm. Thereby, urea and creatinine concentrations were within the referent levels. Hyperglycaemia was observed in 50.0% of tested animals with maximal excess at the rate of 44.0%. Also, decreasing of common calcium and inorganic phosphorus levels was determined at the rate of 16.0 and 58.6%, vitamins А and Е — at the rate of 64.0 and 48,6% respectively, in comparison to lower level of physiological norm. The average index of acid capacity reached maximal referent levels. At the same time, it was increased in 33.3% of animals. Therefore, detected changes in biochemical indices in horse blood evidence that various metabolic disorders progress in clinically healthy stallions at spring and may furtherly lead to the appearance of metabolic syndrome
Given review is briefly summarizing published data on the history and current state such phenomenon as bacterial translocation. The basic patterns of saprophytic bacteria translocation, as well as theoretical and practical importance of further study of this phenomenon are described.
