This study aims to determine the consumption effect of Coleus tuberosus flour and crackers rich in resistant starch type 3 to glucose and lipids profiles in diabetic mice. The study was conducted with four treatments (normal mice with AIN 93 diet, diabetic mice with AIN 93 diet, diabetic mice with Coleus tuberosus flour diet, diabetic mice with coleus tuberosus crackers rich in resistant starch type 3). The analysis of blood glucose levels and lipids profile were determined using an enzymatic colorimetric method with a commercial kit. The results showed that the consumption of Coleus tuberosus flour and crackers rich in resistant starch type 3 can improve glucose and lipids profile (total cholesterol, triglycerides, low-density lipoprotein, high-density lipoprotein) in alloxan-induced diabetic mice. The atherogenic index was smaller on the diet treatment of Coleus tuberosus flour rich in resistant starch type 3 and Coleus tuberosus crackers rich in resistant starch type 3 compared to the AIN 93 feed.This study shows that the raw material (Coleus tuberosus flour rich in resistant starch type 3) and Coleus tuberosus crackers that are rich in resistant starch type 3 can potentially be consumed as a functional food to improve glucose and lipid profiles in diabetes mellitus condition.
Keluarga mempunyai peran penting dalam meningkatkan kesejahteraan sosial. Peran yang lebih dominan adalah peran seorang ibu untuk mengurus rumah tangga dan membantu suami dalam menambah pendapatan keluarganya. Potensi yang paling menarik untuk dikaji adalah potensi ibu rumah tangga ketika tidak hanya berperan sebagai ibu rumah tangga melainkan bekerja untuk membantu meningkatkan kesejahteraan keluarga. Artikel ini ditulis dengan tujuan untuk mendeskripsikan peran ibu rumah tangga dan faktor pengaruh ibu rumah tangga bekerja. Tulisan ini disajikan berdasarkan kajian literatur dan kajian pemikiran kritis mengenai peran ibu rumah tangga dalam keluarga dalam meningkatkan kesejahteraan keluarga. Hasil kajian didapatkan bahwa ibu rumah tangga dapat berperan ganda untuk mengurus keluarga dan ikut serta dalam mencari nafkah. Secara umum alasan ibu rumah tangga bekerja adalah karena ingin membantu suami meningkatkan pendapatan keluarga. Sebagai tenaga kerja wanita dalam keluarga, umumnya mereka memilih bekerja di sektor informal. Hal ini dilakukan agar dapat membagi waktu antara pekerjaan dan keluarga. Partisipasi wanita saat ini bukan sekedar menuntut persamaan hak, tetapi juga menyatakan arti bagi pembangunan dalam menjamin kesejahteraan keluarga dan kesejahteraan masyarakat di Indonesia pada umumnya. Artikel ini diharapkan menjadi bahan solusi pengembangan potensi ibu rumah tangga untuk menanggulangi kemiskinan dalam rangka meningkatkan kesejahteraan keluarga.
Three different solvents were used to extract the phytochemical compounds in the peel and flesh of Coleus tuberosus. The results of extraction with different solvents were compared based on the levels of phytochemicals compounds and its antioxidant activity. Extraction of bioactive compounds was done by the maceration method using methanol, ethyl acetate, and chloroform for seven days at a ratio of 1:5 (w/v). Determination of total phenolic contents and flavonoids was conducted via spectrophotometric method. Antioxidant activity was evaluated based on DPPH, peroxide value and TBA value. The results showed that the methanol solvent extracted higher total phenolic and flavonoids compounds than the ethyl acetate and chloroform. The antioxidant activity of methanol extracts was higher compared to ethyl acetate and chloroform extracts for both flesh and peel of C. tuberosus. The extract of the peel of C. tuberosus had antioxidant activity higher compared to the flesh extract with the use of methanol, ethyl acetate or chloroform as solvent. There was a positive and significant correlation between total phenolic and flavonoids content against DPPH and a negative and significant correlation with peroxide and TBA value.
The ethanolic extracts of flesh and peel of Coleus tuberosus were evaluated for its ability to reduce oxidative stress using cellular antioxidant activity testing on MCF-7 cells based on oxidation of 2.7-dichlorofluoresce diacetate (DCFH). Meanwhile, the antiproliferative activities was evaluated based on 3-(4.5-Dimethylthiazol-2)-2.5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay in MCF-7 cells. The results showed that the ethanolic extract of flesh and peel have the ability to reduce oxidative stress and inhibit the proliferation of breast cancer cells MCF-7. The optimum concentration of ethanol extracts of peel in reducing oxidative stress was 200 μg/mL, while that of flesh was 400 μg/mL. Inhibitory concentration (IC50) of cell proliferation of MCF-7 by peel extract was 698.23±1.61 (µg/mL), and flesh extracts was 829.86±5.73 (µg/mL). The ability to reduce and inhibit the proliferation showed a dose dependent manner. There is a high correlation between cellular antioxidant and antiproliferation. The correlation of cellular antioxidant activity of the ethanolic extract of flesh Coleus tuberosus and antiproliferation was 0.93, while the correlation between cellular antioxidant activity ofthe ethanolicextract ofthe peel and anti-proliferation was 0.98. These results suggest that the ethanolic extract of flesh and peel of Coleus tuberosus can be used as a source of natural antioxidants and anti-proliferation.
