This study aimed to examine the relationship between Hb A 1c levels and the clinical course of coronavirus-19 (COVID-19) patients. Sixty-six COVID-19(+) patients with high Hb A 1c and 46 with average Hb A 1c and 30 COVID-19(–) patients with average Hb A 1c were included. Hb A 1c levels and parameters examined in COVID-19(+) patients were compared between groups, and correlation analysis was performed between these parameters and Hb A 1c levels. The effect of Hb A 1c levels on intensive care unit (ICU) admission and mortality rate in COVID-19 patients was analyzed with the χ 2 test. It was observed that hemoglobin (Hb) and arterial oxygen saturation (SaO 2 ) levels of the COVID-19 (+) groups was lower than the COVID-19 (–) group, while ferritin, D-dimer, procalcitonin (PCT), and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels were higher. The COVID-19 (+) group with high Hb A 1c had higher lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), PCT and D-dimer levels than the other two groups, while Hb, partial arterial oxygen pressure (PaO 2 ) levels were lower. The Hb A 1c levels of the COVID-19 (+) groups were positively correlated with absolute neutrophil count (ANC), LDH, PCT and (K + ) levels, while negatively correlated with Hb and PaO 2 levels. Hb A 1c was found to be associated with the inflammation process, coagulation disorders and low PaO 2 in COVID-19 patients. The COVID-19 patients with high Hb A 1c levels had a higher mortality rate than other COVID-19 patients. Using Hb A 1c measurements with other prognostic markers would contribute to the patient’s risk of death assessment.
Breast cancer is the most common female death in women. Different studies are being done for treatment. The aim of this study was to investigate the antiproliferative, apoptotic and antioxidant effects of oleuropein and vitamin D both individually and in combination. Apoptosis is a programmed cell death pattern with genetic regulation that requires energy, allowing cells to be safely removed from the environment after performing their specified biological task. The olive tree has important biological properties and is rich in phenolic substances. These phenolic substances are mainly oleuropein. Oleuropein has many pharmacological effects such as antioxidant, antimicrobial, antiviral, anticancer, antiinflammatory, antiageing. Vitamin D is a hormone the kidneys produce that controls blood calcium concentration and impacts the immune system.
Objective: The purpose of the present study was to investigate the laboratory findings in terms of comorbidity, taking into account the length of hospital stay and death rates of COVID-19 patients.Method: Forty-four patients with COVID-19 hospitalized in intensive care unit and 71 patients hospitalized in the ward were included in this study. Whole blood parameters, C-Reactive Protein (CRP), Procalcitonin, Ferritin, Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR), Troponin-I, Creatine, Prothrombin time (PT), Activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) International normalized ratio (INR) and D-Dimer results of the patients between hospitalization day and death rate correlation analysis was performed. In addition, the effects of these parameters on comorbid diseases were evaluated. Results: PT, INR, CRP, Ferritin, Procalcitonin, ESR, D-Dimer, Troponin-I, White blood cell, Neutrophil, Monocyte Lymphocyte Ratio, Neutrophil Lymphocyte Ratio levels of the patients were positively correlated with hospitalization day and death rate, while Lymphocyte levels showed a negative correlation. It also showed a positive correlation with ex rate and Monocyte, Creatine and Platelet levels. Conclusion: It was determined that patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Pneumonia comorbidities and Cardiovascular Disease had higher hospitalization days and intensive care unit admission rates than patients without comorbidity. In addition, patients with Diabetes, Cancer and Chronic Kidney Failure were found to have higher rates of intensive care admission compared to patients without comorbidity.
The present study was aimed at determining bone metabolism related changes in dogs with visseral leishmaniasis such as vitamin D, calcium, phosphate and ALP levels as compared to healthy ones. A total of 40 serums of male dogs aged between 4 and 6 years that were sent to Adnan Menderes University, Faculty of Medicine, Parasitology Laboratory from Kuşadasy and Bodrum districts between the years 2012 and 2013, suspected with leishmaniasis, by the veterinary physicians in accordance with the cold chain rules and 20 of which were evaluated as leishmania seropositive and 20 as leishmania seronegative by the IFA test, were included in this study. There was no any statistically significant difference between the serum 25-OH-D 3 levels of Leishmania positive and negative dogs (p>0.05). There was a statistically significant difference between the serum ALP (p<0.05), and P levels were observed to be higher in the seropositive dogs than in the seronegative dogs, while Ca level was low (p<0.001).
