Ca/Al layered double hydroxide (LDH) was successfully synthesized by co-precipitation method at pH 11 under room temperature condition then followed by calcination at 800 o C. The synthesized Ca/Al LDH was further intercalated with Keggin ion [α-SiW12O40] 4-in order to prepare the intercalated form of Ca/Al LDH. The synthesized materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and used as an adsorbent for iron(II) removal from the aqueous medium. The adsorption performance was investigated by studying the kinetics and thermodynamic properties of the adsorption process. The results showed that pristine Ca/Al LDH exhibited diffraction peak at 2θ about 20 o which corresponds to the layer structure of the LDH material. For the intercalated Ca/Al LDH, the diffraction observed at 2θ around 30-40 o indicated that the [α-SiW12O40] 4-was successfully intercalated into the interlayer space of Ca/Al LDH. Furthermore, the intercalated Ca/Al LDH showed higher adsorption capacity toward iron(II) than the pristine form of Ca/Al LDH.
Lingga Village, located in the highlands of Karo Regency, has many kinds of fresh vegetables, and one of the most demanding is the carrot. However, the problem faced by the farmer is that they need more knowledge about the management process, such as the fluctuation of carrot sales prices, the malformation of carrot growth, limited marketing opportunities, and training about it. Therefore, this community service aimed to assist these farmers in finding possible solutions using the ABCD (Asset-Based Community Development) method. The main topic delivered was handling price fluctuations in carrots; preventing the malformation of carrot growth; carrot business potential; and e-commerce-based business development. The results show that the owner still needed to start using the exact formula for the fertilizer composition. Therefore, the team gave the suggestion based on the Ministry of Agriculture’s recommendation. Some potential ways to expand the business suggestion are consignment with traders/conventional shops/supermarkets or even selling the product through e-commerce platforms. However, the owner has limitations in using technology and needs help from relatives, especially the youths. To conclude, the owner should start the expansion with the WhatsApp business because that platform that has been widely used and is easier to maintain.
The use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) can protect against exposure to the COVID-19 virus, but on the other hand it causes an increase in the generation of plastic waste. The amount of COVID-19 PPE waste is estimated at 1.6 million tons per day with masks or face shields worth 3.4 billion per day. The urgency of handling PPE waste is not only due to the volume of waste, but also the nature of the virus that survives on solid surfaces. This publication aims to provide a systematic review of PPE waste management in Indonesia, both from health facilities and households. Good practices from abroad are explored to see the potential for developing PPE waste management in Indonesia. The search results provide 38 articles, namely 21 national articles and 17 international articles. PPE waste management in Indonesia and abroad in general is separation, disinfection, collection/temporary storage, transportation, and final disposal (incineration/sterilization/landfill). 3R practice improvement (reuse, reduce, recycle) can create sustainable PPE waste management, for example, the use of environmentally friendly materials, reuse PPE after sterilization to increase lifetime or conversion of PPE waste into raw materials.
Immobilization of ascorbic acid on Ni-Zn LHS (Nickel-Zink Layered Hydroxide Salt) was done through sample preparations and immobilization studies. Ni-Zn LHS was synthesized using coprecipitation method by mixing Ni (NO3)2 and Zn (NO3)2 with molar ratio 2:1, respectively. The green solid material was characterized using XRD, FTIR and SEM-EDX. Diffraction pattern of Ni-Zn LHS shows the peaks from (001), (003), (020) and (220) reflections at 9.30, 18.99, 33.36 and 59.50o, respectively. Ni-Zn LHS has zero charge or netral at pH 6.7. There is no significant shift of 2θ shown after immobilization process. It indicated that ascorbic acid was present on the outer material’s surface. The successful of immobilization was confirmed by the presence of ascorbic groups in FTIR spectra. The 2924 and 1465 cm-1 were the bands of C-H sp3 and C-H sp2, respectively. The immobilized material shown the decreasing of wide range particle size. The Ni, Zn, N and O atoms were detected in Ni-Zn LHS, Ni and Zn were the metal and N and O were the nitrate ion. Immobilization were confirmed by the presence of C atom on material’s surface, C was indicated the ascorbic acid. The immobilization process was followed the Langmuir model due to the highest value of correlation coefficient. Langmuir model assumed that there’s one major interaction in adsorption. The Ni-Zn-AA LHS has stability at pH 5-6 due to its lowest amount of ascorbic acid that released from the structure. The adsorption of [AuCl4]- was successfully done at pH 6 following pseudo second order kinetic model and Freundlich adsorption isotherm model with correlation coefficient 0.9791 and 0.9381, respectively.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
