En las últimas décadas las estructuras recíprocas han encontrado una nueva utilidad vinculada a la ejecución de obras temporales y reciclables en línea con las tendencias actuales en arquitectura sostenible. El objetivo de este trabajo consiste en analizar el comportamiento de puentes de madera con estructura recíproca. Se realizó un modelo numérico y se compararon las respuestas estructurales del puente tradicional chino y el puente desmontable de Leonardo. El modelo se verificó midiendo la deformación de un puente real construido en taller. Además del comportamiento mecánico se estudió el mecanismo de transmisión de cargas, la influencia del rozamiento, la estabilidad lateral y la robustez. El puente chino trabaja fundamentalmente a compresión, acercándose más al comportamiento de un arco funicular, y transmitiendo una carga horizontal en los apoyos del orden de tres veces mayor que el puente de Leonardo, que trabaja fundamentalmente a flexión y con niveles de agotamiento y deformación mayores.
La ciudad de Toledo, sede permanente del poder durante casi seis siglos tras la ocupación romana, fue dominada por visigodos y omeyas hasta su conquista castellana. Su evolución arquitectónica la convierte es un enclave idóneo para el desarrollo de la carpintería de armar. Sus armaduras de lazo suponen un magnífico ejemplo donde entender el oficio a través de las posibilidades geométricas y constructivas exploradas por quienes las realizaron. Se analizan las trazas geométricas y su implantación desde los ejemplos más sencillos y numerosos con estrellas de ocho puntas hasta las complejas trazas de geometría radial; la evolución de las armaduras de par y nudillo, que, mediante la prefabricación, posibilitó construir complejas armaduras de siete paños con lacería.
Este artículo se destina al análisis geométrico y constructivo del artesonado de la capilla mayor de la iglesia de Santa María de Alaejos (Valladolid). El carpintero que realiza esta armadura contrata conjuntamente esta obra con la del retablo mayor. Se trata de un carpintero ensamblador y no de un carpintero de armar. Esto se va a notar en la manera de solucionar la prefabricación y montaje del artesonado. La inexperiencia en carpintería de armar se hace aquí más que evidente. Para poder realizar una prefabricación por paños de la ochava, según la tradición hispanomusulmana, se precisa de la solución de limas, bien con limas moamares, o bien con limas dobladas. Sorprendentemente, la solución que toma el carpintero es doblar los pares torales, que discurren por la mitad de los paños, dejando sin armadura las charnelas entre paños. La solución se vuelve muy inestable y precisa de herrajes de fundición.
Cuando el Renacimiento aparece en España, la carpintería de armar disfruta de una rica tradición geométrica y constructiva, la carpintería de lazo, desarrollada en la Península Ibérica durante siglos. Aunque la llegada de las nuevas ideas supone la aparición de techos de aspecto muy distinto, con molduras “al romano” y casetones, ambos estilos están íntimamente ligados. Sus geometrías comparten una base común. Los sistemas constructivos pertenecen a una misma familia, basados en la tradición de par y nudillo. Es sabido que los carpinteros castellanos del siglo XVI eran capaces de diseñar y construir según uno u otro código indistintamente, mostrando su dominio de las reglas tradicionales, así como la compatibilidad de ambas tendencias. Este artículo muestra la transición entre ambos estilos a través del estudio de diseños que fusionan características tanto de la carpintería de lazo como de la renacentista y especialmente un caso paradigmático en Villamayor de Campos, Zamora.
Muchos artesonados castellanos del siglo XVI combinan la tradición carpintera hispana con la introducción de los casetones poligonales, propios del renacimiento, formando estructuras con varios paños. Esta forma poliédrica genera una impresión de mayor profundidad y confiere más dignidad al espacio, pero complica notablemente su construcción. Hay que recordar que en el resto de Europa estas estructuras renacentistas presentaban la cara inferior horizontal. La conjunción de ambas condiciones, polígonos planos y techo de varias caras, genera la necesidad de buscar soluciones geométricas imaginativas en sus rincones. El techo del salón principal del Monasterio de Uclés es un artesonado renacentista formado por octógonos y cuadrados. Este patrón cubre tanto el plano horizontal como los cuatro planos laterales inclinados. Sin embargo, para resolver los rincones, el diseñador introduce unos hexágonos que conectan con elegancia los octógonos adyacentes. Esta investigación pone en contexto y analiza la definición de esta solución única.
