Bu araştırmanın amacı Gerçekçi Matematik Eğitimi ile 6. sınıf cebir öğretiminin, öğrencilerin akademik başarılarına ve kalıcılığa etkisini incelemektir. Araştırmada öntest-son test deney ve kontrol gruplu yarı deneysel desen kullanılmıştır. Çalışma, Bursa ilinde bulunan iki devlet ortaokulunda, 20 kişi deney ve 24 kişi de kontrol grubu olmak üzere 44 altıncı sınıf öğrencisiyle yürütülmüştür. Araştırmanın örneklemi rastgele örnekleme yöntemi kullanılarak oluşturulmuştur. Dersler, “Cebir” öğrenme alanında deney grubunda Gerçekçi Matematik Eğitimi yaklaşımı ile, kontrol grubunda ise Millî Eğitim Bakanlığı İlköğretim Matematik Dersi Öğretim Programı’nda yer alan mevcut öğretim yöntemi ile sürdürülmüştür. Araştırmada, Başarı Testi deney ve kontrol gruplarına ön test, son test ve kalıcılık testi olarak uygulanmıştır. Elde edilen ve normal dağılım gösteren veriler t testi ile analiz edilmiştir. Uygulama öncesi deney ve kontrol gruplarının aldıkları ön test puanları arasında anlamlı bir fark olmadığı görülmüştür. Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgulara göre, deney grubu öğrencilerinin akademik başarı düzeylerinin son test ve kalıcılık testlerinde, kontrol grubu öğrencilerine göre istatistiksel olarak anlamlı şekilde etkili olduğu bulunmuştur. Bu bağlamda cebir öğretiminde Gerçekçi Matematik Eğitimi’ne uygun etkinliklerin kullanılması önerilmektedir. Anahtar Kelimeler: Gerçekçi matematik eğitimi; Akademik başarı; Cebir; Başarı; Kalıcılık.
