Qualitative research in order to identify the conceptions of health education that guide the practice of professionals working in the Family Health Strategy with families of children/adolescents with chronic disease. Data were collected from August to December 2011, through semi-structured interviews conducted with 21 professionals in two Integrated Family Health Units in João Pessoa-PB. Thematic analysis revealed that some professionals do the essence of health education activities and others do not develop targeted educational practice for this group, not recognizing children/adolescents with chronic illness in their coverage area. We emphasize the need for health professionals to adopt new ways of doing health and guided by dialogic relations that include health education.
RESUMO:O objetivo desse estudo foi identificar a concepção de educação em saúde que norteia a prática educativa de enfermeiras que atuam na Atenção Primária à Saúde, visando à promoção do desenvolvimento infantil saudável. Os dados foram coletados de setembro de 2012 a janeiro de 2013, por meio de entrevista realizada com 10 enfermeiras que atuam na Estratégia Saúde da Família no município de João Pessoa-Paraíba. O material empírico foi tratado a partir de análise categorial temática. Percebeu-se que há enfermeiras que desconhecem a essência do processo de educação em saúde, mantendo concepções biologicistas, enquanto outras referem desenvolver prática educativa somente durante a consulta de puericultura, porém, não contempla a estimulação do desenvolvimento neuropsicomotor. Diante disso, surge a necessidade de despertar o pensar/ agir dessas enfermeiras, a fim de ampliar o conceito de educação em saúde e implementá-las na vigilância do desenvolvimento infantil para transformar suas práticas. PRÁTICA EDUCATIVA DE ENFERMEIRAS NURSING EDUCATIONAL PRACTICE IN PRIMARY HEALTH CARE AIMED TO HEALTHY CHILD DEVELOPMENT ABSTRACT:The purpose of the present study is to identify the concept of health education that guides the educational practice of nurses who work in Primary Health Care, aimed at promoting children's healthy development. Some nurses were unaware of the importance of the health education process, keeping biologicist views of this process, while others reported developing educational practices only during child care consultation, which however did not include stimulation of neuropsychomotor development. Therefore, it is necessary to awaken the thinking/acting of these nurses, in order to broaden the concept of health education for including child development monitoring in their practices. RESUMO Objetivo: investigar a compreensão dos profissionais de saúde acerca da educação em saúde para as famílias de crianças/adolescentes com doença crônica. Método: pesquisa qualitativa, realizada com 21 profissionais de saúde, de nível superior, que atuam na estratégia de saúde da família de João Pessoa/PB. Os dados foram coletados por meio de entrevista semiestruturada e submetidos à análise de conteúdo. Resultados: a categoria Compreensão dos profissionais acerca de educação em saúde evidenciou o desconhecimento da essência dessa atividade educativa, bem como, a não identificação de crianças/adolescentes com doença crônica na área de abrangência. Conclusão: constatou-se a necessidade de os profissionais identificarem as crianças/adolescentes com doença crônica e desenvolverem ações educativas junto às famílias, a fim de capacitá-las para a autonomia no cuidado, de forma a prevenir o surgimento de recidivas e consequentes hospitalizações. ABSTRACT: Objective: to investigate health personnel's understanding of health education for families of children and adolescents with chronic diseases. Method: this qualitative study involved semi-structured interviews of 21 Family Health Strategy personnel in João Pessoa, Paraíba State. Results: the category health professionals' understanding of health education highlighted a lack of knowledge of the essence of health education activities, as well as a failure to identify children and adolescents with chronic disease in the coverage area. Conclusion: it was found that health personnel need to identify the children and adolescents with chronic diseases and to undertake educational actions with their families in order to enable them to achieve autonomy in care, so as to prevent relapses and resulting hospitalizations.
