Estudos em todo o mundo apontam para a ocorrência de padrões de mobilidade distintos entre mulheres e homens, que são explicados, em grande parte, pela divisão sexual do trabalho. Este esforço de pesquisa objetivou caracterizar essas diferenças para a realidade urbana brasileira. Para isso, inicialmente foram levantadas hipóteses acerca das desigualdades na mobilidade por gênero e sua relação com a divisão sexual do trabalho. Para cada hipótese levantada, indicadores foram definidos e estimados com base nos mais recentes dados de pesquisas OD domiciliares de três capitais brasileiras, representando regiões distintas do país. Os resultados obtidos para cada capital foram então comparados e discutidos, assim como analisada a evolução temporal das desigualdades na mobilidade por gênero em São Paulo, entre 2007 e 2017. Conclui-se que há evidências empíricas para validar a maioria das hipóteses levantadas, mostrando que de fato há diferenças nos padrões de deslocamentos de mulheres e homens no meio urbano brasileiro.
Apesar dos recorrentes esforços de caracterização dos distintos padrões de mobilidade por gênero em metrópoles do Norte e Sul Global, ainda são pouco claras as relações de causalidade que determinam esse fenômeno. Este artigo busca explicar a parcela dessas diferenças que decorre da divisão sexual do trabalho, apoiando-se em análises quantitativas confirmatórias. Partindo de uma representação conceitual da problemática advinda da literatura, construiu-se um diagrama causal que traduz as hipóteses causa-efeito de interesse e controla pelas possíveis fontes de endogeneidade. Dados da pesquisa OD de São Paulo foram utilizados na estimação de modelos de equações estruturais, que confirmaram explicações causais baseadas em três elementos-chave: atribuições do lar, inserção profissional e acessibilidade. Evidenciou-se que as imposições sociais decorrentes da divisão sexual do trabalho repercutem na produção de viagens e nas limitações sobre o orçamento de tempo, sendo observados processos causais heterogêneos não só entre os gêneros, mas entre classes de renda.
O uso integrado da bicicleta com o transporte público vem despertando o interesse da comunidade acadêmica pelo potencial de melhoria na acessibilidade urbana. Ganhos significativos no acesso/difusão devem agregar atratividade ao modo coletivo, beneficiando sobretudo os segmentos sociais economicamente menos favorecidos. Estudos sobre esta temática são mais desenvolvidos e expressivos nos contextos do Norte Global, onde se utilizam dados oriundos de pesquisas tradicionais (domiciliares) na caracterização desse fenômeno. Visando superar as limitações inerentes aos métodos convencionais de pesquisa e a baixa ocorrência dessas viagens no Brasil, este trabalho propõe um método utilizando big data dos registros operacionais do transporte público e sistemas de compartilhamento de bicicletas para caracterizar viagens integradas. Por meio de estudo de caso centrado em Fortaleza, o método proposto se mostra vantajoso na identificação das viagens integradas, possibilitando a análise de um conjunto de dados com larga representatividade, inviáveis de serem obtidos por métodos tradicionais.
