A reabilitação de um paciente desdentado total visa devolver a função e estética estando o sucesso do tratamento relacionado também à obtenção de uma boa estabilidade e retenção das próteses. Para uma retenção satisfatória os cuidados recaem sobre a moldagem e a estabilidade nos registros maxilo-mandibulares. Atualmente tem-se dado preferência à resina acrílica ativada quimicamente (R.A.A.Q.) como material de base de prova, porém tem-se observado o desajuste da mesma na região de palato, principalmente quando há uma demora durante a realização dos procedimentos, fato freqüente nos ambulatórios de um curso de graduação. Por esta razão surgiu a curiosidade de se estudar o desajuste das bases de prova experimentais em R.A.A.Q. em função da técnica de confecção, forma e tempo de armazenagem, local de mensuração e grau de treinamento do operador. Três operadores com níveis diferentes de treinamento confeccionaram 6 bases com a técnica da "placa de vidro" e 6 com a técnica adaptada. Metade das bases de cada técnica foi armazenada em água e o restante ao ar livre no modelo, realizando-se a mensuração da desadaptação imediatamente, 24 horas, 1 semana e 1 mês após, em cinco pontos pré - determinados com auxílio de um espessímetro para a realização da leitura de uma silicona leve interposta entre as bases de prova e os modelos padrões. Os dados obtidos foram submetidos ao estudo estatístico de "Análise de Variância" e ao Teste de Tukey, ambos ao nível de 5% tornando lícito concluir pelos resultados que o fator tempo de armazenagem e local de mensuração mostraram desajuste estatisticamente significante.
