<span lang="EN-US">Personality is a silent sedentary nature, which affects the attitudes and behavior of every individual. For a teacher, personality will appear as a hidden curriculum, which affects how to teach and educate. This phenomenological research aimed to interpret the characteristics of effective teachers’ personality in strengthening character education. The participants in this study were 17 elementary, secondary, and high school teachers from nine districts in Indonesia. This participant was selected using purposive sampling technique (teachers who have more than 10 years of teaching experience). Data collection was carried out by interview. Qualitative data analysis was performed using the ATLAS.ti software. The data analysis stages in this study were data coding, data classification, and data interpretation. This study found 12 personality characteristics of teachers that are effective in strengthening character education, include able to behave as friends, able to be roles model, able to understand lessons, discipline, respectful of students, treat students impartially in terms of sanctions, patient, relaxed, willing to pursue life-long learning, master the skill of educating character, not known as fierce teachers, and perceived as joyful teachers. The effective teacher personality can provide understanding and improvement of character education in schools.</span>
Penelitian bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan implementasi, faktor pendukung dan penghambat penerapan pendidikan karakter dalam pembelajaran matematika SMP di Kota Yogyakarta. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian evaluasi model discrepancy model dengan pendekatan kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Penelitian melibatkan sampel sebanyak 22 SMP untuk pengumpulan data kuantitatif dan 6 SMP untuk pengumpulan data kualitatif. Hasil evaluasi dapat disimpulkan bahwa implementasi pendidikan karakter dalam pembelajaran matematika SMP di Kota Yogyakarta termasuk dalam kategori cukup. Adapun faktor pendukung adalah (1) visi dan misi sekolah; (2) adanya peraturan dan tata tertib yang telah diatur sekolah, (3) dukungan dan kerjasama yang baik antar warga sekolah; (4) kondisi siswa yang memiliki dasar karakter baik; (5) contoh perilaku positif guru sebagai teladan. Sedangkan faktor penghambat adalah (1) guru belum memiliki pemahaman yang memadai tentang konsep pendidikan karakter dalam pembelajaran matematika; (2) guru mengalami kesulitan dalam mengidentifikasi nilai karakter dari kompetensi dasar pada mata pelajaran matematika; (3) guru belum dapat mengimplementasikan pendidikan karakter yang terintegrasi dalam pembelajaran matematika dengan baik; (4) sarana dan prasarana yang belum lengkap; (5) dokumentasi penilaian sikap siswa masih lemah. Character Education Implementation in Mathematics Teaching and Learning of Junior High School in Yogyakarta AbstractThe aim of this research was to describe the implementation, supporting factors and obstacles the implementation of character education in mathematics teaching and learning of junior high school in Yogyakarta. This research is an evaluation research discrepancy model with the quantitative and qualitative approach. The study involved 22 samples of SMP for quantitative data collection and 6 SMP for qualitative data collection. The results from this study revealed that character education implementation in mathematics teaching and learning of junior high schools in Yogyakarta was good. Supporting factors were: (1) the vision and mission of the school; (2) ground rules that have been designed by the schools; (3) support and cooperation among school members; (4) student’s condition who have a basic good character; and (5) examples of positive behavior of teachers as role models. Obstacles were: (1) teachers do not have enough understanding of character education especially in the implementation in mathematics teaching and learning processes; (2) teachers have difficulties to identify the character values from the basic competence of mathematics; (3) teachers have not been able to implement character education integrated to mathematics teaching and learning processes properly; (4) poor teaching and learning facilities in some schools; and (5) poor documentation of students’ character assessment.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dan membandingkan keefektifan pembelajaran matematika dengan Pendekatan Matematika Realistik dan Konvensional ditinjau dari kemampuan penalaran dan komunikasi matematika siswa.Penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimen semu dengan desain nonequivalent comparison-group design. Penelitian ini menggunakan dua kelompok eksperimen. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 15 Banjarmasin yang terdiri dari 6 kelas. Sampel penelitian adalah dua kelas. Penentuan sampel diambil dengan memilih kelas secara acak untuk dikenai perlakuan dengan pembelajaran matematika dengan Pendekatan Matematika Realistik dan pendekatan Konvensional. Instrumen dalam penelitian ini berupa instrument tes kemampuan penalaran dan komunikasi matematika. Koefesien reliabilitas instrumen tes adalah 0,711, dengan SEM adalah 1,741. Untuk mengetahui efektif tidaknya pembelajaran matematika realistik dan pendekatan konvensional pada masing-masing variabel, data dianalisis secara univariat dengan statistik uji one sample t-test pada taraf signifikansi 5%. Kemudian untuk membandingkan keefektifan pembelajaran matematika realistik dan pembelajaran konvensional, data dianalisis secara multivariat dengan taraf signifikansi 5% (0,05) dan ditindaklanjuti dengan analisis secara univariat pada taraf signifikansi 0,025 untuk pengujian dua arah. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa (1) pembelajaran dengan pendekatan matematika realistik tidak efektif ditinjau dari kemampuan penalaran tetapi efektif ditinjau dari kemampuan komunikasi matematika; (2) pembelajaran matematika dengan pendekatan konvensional tidak efektif ditinjau dari kemampuan penalaran dan komunikasi matematik siswa; dan (3) pembelajaran pendekatan matematika realistik lebih baik dari pembelajaran konvensional ditinjau dari kemampuan penalaran dan komunikasi matematik siswa. <span lang="IN">Teacher-students interaction is one of the most important interactions in learning. Teacher-students interaction affects student understanding.</span><span lang="IN">However, in practice, there are still many lessons that have not applied teacher-students interaction properly.</span><span lang="IN">This study aim</span><span lang="EN-US">ed</span><span lang="IN"> to reveal teacher-student interaction in the mathematics learning process that affects students’ mathematical understanding.</span><span lang="IN">This study use</span><span lang="EN-US">d</span><span lang="IN"> a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach.</span><span lang="IN">The</span><span lang="IN">research subjects were eighth-grade junior high school students. Research data were obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation.</span><span lang="IN">Observations were conducted in the eighth grade and interviews were conducted with six students from the class. The students were interviewed to express their opinions concerning learning process interactions. The results of this study show</span><span lang="EN-US">ed</span><span lang="IN"> that teacher-student interaction has affected students’ mathematical understanding consists of</span><span lang="EN-US">:</span><span lang="IN"> 1) The teacher transfers the material-the students attend to the material</span><span lang="EN-US">;</span><span lang="IN"> 2) Question-answer amid teacher-students</span><span lang="EN-US">;</span><span lang="IN"> 3) The teacher makes interesting learning strategies-students are actively involved in learning</span><span lang="EN-US">;</span><span lang="IN"> 4) Teachers give awards-students receive awards.</span>
