Objective:to identify the effect of the mental, physical, temporal, performance, total effort and frustration demands in the overall workload, and in the same way analyze the global burden of port labor and associated factors that contribute most to their decrease or increase. Method:a cross-sectional, quantitative study, developed with 232 dock workers. For data collection, a structured questionnaire with descriptive, occupational, smoking and illicit drug use variables was applied, as well as variables on the load on the tasks undertaken at work, based on the questionnaire NASA Task Load Index. For data analysis, we used the analysis of the Poisson regression model. Results:the demands physical demand and total effort showed greater effect on the overall workload, indicating high overall load on port work (134 employees - 58.8%). The following remained associated statistically with high levels of workload: age (p = 0.044), to be employee of the wharfage (p = 0.006), work only at night (p = 0.025), smoking (p = 0.037) and use of illegal drugs (p = 0.029). Conclusion:the workload in this type of activity was high, and the professional category and work shift the factors that contributed to the increase, while the age proved to be a factor associated with a decrease.

The mental health of educators is a growing problem in many countries. This study sought to identify self-reported stressful working conditions of elementary schoolteachers and the biopsychosocial consequences of those working conditions and then identify working conditions that promote well-being for teachers in the workplace. Exploratory study was done with 37 teachers. Data collection was performed using a structured interview with a questionnaire. Results show that stressful working conditions are related to inadequate salary, an excessive number of activities, and having to take work home. Biopsychosocial consequences include anxiety, stress, and sleep disorders. There was a statistically significant association between inadequate salary and anxiety (p = 0.01) and between an excessive number of activities and stress (p = 0.01). Teachers reported that a good relationship among colleagues is a working condition that promotes well-being in the workplace. The identification of stressful working conditions for teachers, the biopsychosocial consequences, and working conditions that promote well-being in the workplace are relevant to determining actions that improve the work environment and, consequently, the health of teachers.

The study aimed at knowing the articulation of groups locally organized with the team of professionals of Family Health Strategy for promoting socio-environmental health. It was used the recorded semi-structured interview technique with 70 participants of 13 groups investigated, analyzed according to qualitative approach of content. The category consumer participation revealed the professional and collective mobilization for participative management in health. The interest in participating in groups locally organized indicates the individual propositions which increase collectively and can be noticed in the service of psychological basic human and socio-environmental necessities.

OBJETIVO: Identificar as doenças diagnosticadas em trabalhadores portuários avulsos, atendidos em um ambulatório de medicina do trabalho portuário. MÉTODOS: Estudo quantitativo descritivo com análise retrospectiva, que apresentou como fonte de dados as fichas de atendimento médico dos trabalhadores portuários avulsos entre 2000 e 2009. A coleta de dados desenvolveu-se mediante aplicação de um formulário predeterminado e procedeu-se à análise quantitativa descritiva em 953 fichas médicas dos trabalhadores. RESULTADOS: totalizou-se 953 fichas médicas (94,7%), das quais 90,47% pertenciam a trabalhadores do sexo masculino, 52% na faixa etária acima de 50 anos e 51,7% com mais de 19 anos de atuação. Identificaram-se 527 diagnósticos, sendo os principais relacionados ao trabalho: hipertensão (8,3%), lombalgia (6,2%), outras doenças pulmonares (1,7%) e episódios depressivos (1,2%). CONCLUSÃO: constatou-se o acometimento do trabalhador por patologias ocupacionais de ordem mental, circulatória, respiratória e osteomuscular, evidenciando morbidades que o afetam e interferem em sua qualidade de vida e na produtividade das atividades laborais.

This study's objective was to identify the types of workload accruing from agricultural work that are recognized by farmworkers and to verify occupational accidents in two rural environments. This quantitative, exploratory and descriptive study was conducted with 259 farmworkers in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil using a semi-structured questionnaire. Descriptive analysis, Person's Chi-Square test, and coefficient of contingency were used. The workloads most frequently reported by farmers were heat, fungi, chemicals, dust, repetitive movements, heavy load-lifting, and inappropriate postures. Most accidents occurred with farm implements followed by falls. Significant associations were found among different isntruments and accidents. The results suggest the need for investment in health actions in rural environments to prevent or minimize work-related accidents and diseases so that nurses can contribute in a broad and efficient manner.

This study's objective was to identify the use of personal protective equipment by gas stations' workers in the city of Rio Grande, RS, Brazil. This quantitative, descriptive and exploratory study was conducted with 221 workers from 22 gas stations using a questionnaire and non-participative and symmetrical observation. Descriptive statistics were used in the analysis and question quality was controlled through Cronbach's alpha test, which obtained a result of 0.96. The results indicate a predominance of multitasking, while workers self-reported the use of boots, aprons, gloves, masks, goggles, earplugs and uniforms. Observation, however, showed incoherence in the workers' reports, since only boots and uniforms were actually used. The results show there is a need for nurses to implement protective and preventive actions to assure workers are not exposed to risks and hazards, while also encouraging health surveillance. Se trata de un estudio cuantitativo, exploratorio, descriptivo, realizado con 221 trabajadores de 22 estaciones de servicio, por medio de cuestionario y registro de observación no participante y sistemático se dio. Para análisis fueram realizadas la estadística descriptiva y el control de calidad de las preguntas por medio del test Alpha de Cronbach, obteniendose el resultado de 0,96. Se verificó la predominancia de la multifunció y la utilización de botas, delantal, guantes, máscara, lentes, protector auricular y uniforme, conforme autoreferido. La observación confirmó únicamente el uso de botas y uniformes, constatandose inconsistencia. Los puntos planteados demuestran la necesidad de actuación de las enfermeras, a través de acciones de protección y prevención de los riesgos y peligros para la salud del trabajador, estimulando la vigilancia de la salud.DESCRIPTORES: Salud laboral. The present study aimed to identify the profile of diseases and injuries that affect casual dock workers and identify casual dock workers’ perceptions of positive and negative work influences on their health. This study consisted of two phases. The first phase was a quantitative study composed of a retrospective analysis, conducted with 953 medical records. The second phase of the research is a non-random sample with 51 casual dock workers. Data analysis was performed with SPSS 19.0. The average age of the casual dock workers was 48.7. Concerning working time, the majority had more than 19.6 years of dock work experience. In the first phase, 527 pathologic diagnoses were identified. The diagnoses that affected the musculoskeletal system (15.8%, N = 152; p < 0.01) were highlighted. Consequences to physical health produced by accidents stood out, with fracture registration predominating (12.8%, N = 122; p < 0.05). Significant differences were found for positive work influence on the cardiovascular system and family health. It was concluded that the diagnoses obtained are related to the influence of dock work perception and have motivated an introduction of preventive measures.

This study identified the prevalence of work-related musculoskeletal disorders among casual dockworkers. This is a retrospective and quantitative study, the data sources of which included the medical files of dockworkers from 2000 to 2009. Data were collected in a medical service for dockworkers using a previously developed form; descriptive quantitative analysis was performed. Ethical aspects were complied with. A total of 15.8% of the diagnoses identified among male workers referred to musculoskeletal disorders. Individuals older than 52 years of age and with more than 21 years working in the field predominated. The most frequent musculoskeletal diseases included low back pain (38.8%), tendinitis (19.7%), and neck pain (12.5%). These diseases can be prevented through health interventions, confirming the importance of developing clinical support in nursing in order to improve the quality of life of dockworkers. Los aspectos éticos fueran respetados. Se identificó 15,8% diagnósticos de enfermedades osteomusculares, entre trabajadores del sexo masculino. Predominaran individuos con más de 52 años de edad y con tiempo de actuación laboral superior a 21 años. Las principales enfermedades fueran de lumbalgia (38,8%), tendinitis (19,7%) y cervicalgía (12,5%). Las enfermedades osteomusculares mas prevalentes fueran las lumbalgías, tendinitis y cervicalgías, las cuales pueden prevenirse por medio de acciones interventoras y evaluativas en salud, ratificando la importancia de construir subsidios clínicos en enfermería que colaboren para la cualidad de vida del trabajador portuario.Descriptores: Enfermería en Salud Pública; Salud Laboral; Trastornos de Traumas Acumulados.
