A total of 159 dressings were applied at the insertion site of 64 central venous catheters whose mean frequency of dressing changes was 3.04 days. The mean number of dressing per patient was 3.1, but 83 unscheduled changes occurred before 7 days of stay, due to detachment, wetness, soiling, and loss of dressing. Conclusion: The frequency of dressing changes was less than seven days, resulting in greater quantities of dressings per patient. Detachment was the most common reason for unscheduled dressing changes. Métodos: Estudio descriptivo consistente en registro diario de evaluación de ocurrencia, motivo del cambio de apósito y cantidad utilizada por paciente, de abril a diciembre de 2014. Análisis por estadística descriptiva. Resultados:Se aplicaron 159 apósitos en sitio de inserción de 64 catéteres venosos centrales, con tiempo medio de permanencia de 3.04 días. El promedio de apósitos por paciente fue 3.1, aunque ocurrieron 83 cambios no programados, previos a siete días de permanencia, por despegado, humedad, suciedad y pérdida del apósito. Conclusión: La permanencia del apósito fue inferior a siete días, determinando mayor número de apósitos utilizados por paciente. El despegado del apósito fue el motivo prevalente de cambio no programado.
Objective: describe the development of a virtual learning object to provide information about autologous transplantation of hematopoietic stem cells to autoimmune diseases. Methods: methodological study of a website development, using the instructional design model that includes Analysis, Design, Development and Implementation. Results: the virtual object, available at http://www.transplantardai.com.br, was developed in a web platform, in the Hypertext Markup Language, using the software WebAcappella -Responsive Website Creator (Intuisphere, France 2016). The content was structured in the modules: History, Transplant, Autoimmune Diseases, Links, Guidelines, Speech Team and Doubts. The icons and menus were created in order to attract the user, facilitating the search for information and allowing maximum use of the resources available on the website. Conclusion: the methodology used allowed the development of the virtual learning object, which can be used as a tool to guide and disseminate knowledge about this treatment. RESUMOObjetivo: descrever o desenvolvimento de um objeto virtual de aprendizagem para disponibilização de informações sobre transplante autólogo de células-tronco hematopoéticas para doenças autoimunes. Métodos: estudo metodológico de desenvolvimento de um website, empregando o modelo de design instrucional que envolve Análise, Design, Desenvolvimento e Implementação. Long-term central venous catheters are indicated for patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Antibiotic lock therapy (ALT) is used to prevent infection in patients with indwelling catheters. However, to date, there is no consensus on the use of ALT. The objective of this cross-sectional study was to assess the use of central venous catheters for ALT by nursing teams from HSCT centres in Brazil. Twenty-two centres were included. The results indicated that 73% of the centres were aware of ALT and 87% used it. ALT had been used for more than 5 years by 43% of the centres. Moreover, 43% of the centres used antibiotics plus heparin and 43% used vancomycin only. These results provide an overview of the use of ALT in care services by nurses from HSCT centres as a strategy for preventing the early removal of central venous catheters.
