The objectives were to evaluate alterations in ischemic rat pups, from dams administered with curcumin (25 and 50 mg/kg). Ten-day-old male pups were subjected or not (SO) to brain ischemia and reperfusion, for 1, 7, and 14 days (this last group was submitted to behavioral evaluation). After that, pups were euthanized for determinations of striatal DA and DOPAC in SO, ischemic from untreated (ICUD) or curcumin treated (ICTD) dams, as well as hippocampal immunohistochemistry assays for iNOS and COX-2 and cresyl violet staining. At the 14th postischemia day, the ICUD group showed increased locomotor activity and rearing behavior, which were reversed in ICTD animals. ICUD pups presented decreased striatal DA and DOPAC levels, relatively to SO, mainly at the 1st postischemia day, but also at the 7th and 14th days which were partially reversed in ICTD pups. A greater number of viable neurons were observed in ICTD, as related to the ICUD group. Ischemia increased iNOS and COX-2 expressions, in CA1 and CA3 areas, at the 1st, 7th, and 14th postischemia days, and these effects were minimized in ICTD pups. In conclusion, the prenatal curcumin treatment was shown to be neuroprotective where the drug anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects probably play a role.
Hepatitis C: Risks and Consequences in Drug UsersAbstract: Hepatitis C is a hepatic inflammation that, according to the World Health Organization, reaches about 130 million people. It may be related to several factors, such as the use of some drugs, agrochemical intoxication and contamination by infectious agents. Symptomatology, for the most part, is chronic; so in many cases it takes years to manifest the symptoms. Therefore, many people are usually infected but do not know, since the identification of the symptoms is due to a long period. Objective: To elucidate the impact of Hepatitis C on the quality of life of drug users. Methodology: This is a bibliographic review based on articles available in the SciELO, LILACS and PubMed databases. The descriptors used in the search were: hepatitis C, intravenous substance abuse, hepatitis virus, common use of needles and syringes, HCV genotype, HCV virology and their correspondents in English. The inclusion criteria were: empirical studies on the high risk of infection in drug users and...
Once understood as a common and mild disorder restricted to childhood, ADHD is now recognized as an important condition because of its poor outcome and strong association with comorbidities. ADHD is a neuropsychological disorder with signs of inattention and impulsivity is not appropriate to the level of development, harmful to learning and impact on quality of life of these children. There is no biological marker for ADHD, its diagnosis is clinical, based on interviews with patients, parents, teachers and people who deal with the carrier. The paper aims at pointing out the most important aspects of ADHD evaluation through the most pertinent bibliography for assessment of this disorder. This study aims to present a review of the main aspects of the history, epidemiology, neurobiology, clinical features, co morbidities, diagnosis, progression and treatment of the disorder.
Postpartum depression can reach up to 15% of pregnant women in developed countries, 25% in underdeveloped countries and up to 40% throughout the perinatal period. Depressive mothers interact less with their children, they show less love and affection, and this may have an impact on the lives of these infants in the future. Babies who lived in this context had problems with language acquisition, cognitive impairment, delay in achieving developmental milestones, attachment insecure, low self-esteem. It is essential that the diagnosis of depression be made as early as possible so that therapeutic and preventive measures are implemented in a timely manner in order to provide healthy child growth and ensure the good mental health of these mothers.Keywords: Postpartum depression; childish behaviour; mother-child relationship; diagnosis; pharmacological treatment; combination therapy;
Abstract:The reality of the Brazilian public health at a time of financial crisis gets even worse the situation of the Zika virus outbreak, which has expressed concern about its relationship with the cases of microcephaly that currently plague the country. This relationship seems to be increasingly close. The Zika virus, currently has been a major enemy of international public health, increasing astronomically cases of microcephaly in Brazil and other equally worrying disorders. This virus is transmitted by the Aedes aegypti.
Carbohydrate intolerance is relatively common in childhood, but its diagnosis and management are still quite precarious. Hereditary fructose intolerance (HFI) is an autosomal recessive disease that results in deficiency of the enzyme aldolase B, which contributes to the onset of gastrointestinal and metabolic symptoms, triggered by the ingestion of foods high in fructose, sucrose or sorbitol. Methodology: For the accomplishment of such a study a search of the literature was done from August to September of the year 2018 with publication period of a maximum of 10 years. The theoretical reference was elaborated through the collection of relevant scientific articles on the subject, made in the electronic databases: Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Pubmed, EBSCOhost and CAPES, from descriptors generated by DeCS: "Fructose Intolerance"; "Child" and its correspondents in English. Thus, 81 articles were obtained and, from the title of the literature and its abstracts, were used. 19 Ademias, articles that were related to the topics covered in this study or whose sample was not composed by humans were also discarded. The diagnosis of HFI is based on the suggestive clinical picture initiated after the ingestion of the fructose, sucrose and sorbitol already mentioned, associated with the use of invasive and noninvasive examinations, but the confirmation is based on the response to the improvement of the symptoms after the restriction of the ingestion of such food, which constitutes the best therapy. Conclusion: Based on the consequences of inadequate management of HFI, it is of fundamental importance that the affected children have an early diagnosis, associated with an adequate nutritional monitoring, which enables an improvement in the quality of life of these individuals, besides preventing important repercussions such as renal and hepatic impairment.
