Time, Performance, Carcass Characteristics and Body Composition in Broilers Fed Isoenergy Diets Formulated with Different Levels of Soybean OilABSTRACT -This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of 0.0, 3.3, 6.6, and 9.9% soybean oil inclusion in isoenergy diets on transit time (TT), performance, carcass characteristics and body composition of broilers from 21 to 56 days of age. The TT was determined at 22 and 42 days of age. Eight hundred and fourty broilers, with initial average weight of 870 g, allotted to a completely randomized design, with four treatments, six replications and 35 broilers per experimental unit, were used in the performance experiment. The TT was reduced linearly at 22 and 42 days of age. From 21 to 42 days, the levels of soybean oil showed a quadratic effect on weight gain, feed:gain ratio, energy:gain ratio and a linear effect on feed intake and energy intake. In the total period, it was observed a positive linear effect of soybean oil on weight gain, energy intake and feed intake and a quadratic effect on feed:gain and energy:gain. Abdominal fat was quadractly influenced at 42 and 56 days of age. However, carcass yield was quadractly influenced only at 56 days of age. Total body fat was positively influenced by age at 56 days and ash decreased at the same age.
Effect of handling system and seasons of the year on performance, carcass yield and meat quality of broiler chicken. This study had as objective to evaluate the effect of the handling system and season of the year on the performance and meat quality of broiler chicken. Five hundred twenty-four thousand commercial Cobb 500 chicks were allocated in three different handling systems, during the four seasons of the year. The experimental design was completely randomized, with a 3 x 4 factorial scheme (three types of storage shed and four seasons). The diet was provided by a co-operative system and consisted of rice straw, and the broilers were slaughtered in a slaughterhouse at 43 days of age. Feed intake, weight, daily weight gain and mortality rate were available with data provided by the co-operative system. Carcass defects were also evaluated, and analyses of pH, tenderness and drip loss of meat were determined. The chickens raised in automatic and semi-automatic systems and during warm seasons showed lower carcass yield and worse meat quality (great values of drip loss and acidity, small values of tenderness), and higher rates of carcass defects. Chickens raised in a non-automatic system and during cold seasons showed the best performance, with low mortality rate and the best meat quality.Key words: carcass defects, drip loss, mortality rate, production factor, pH, shear force.
Palavras chave: Atividade assistida por animais, educação assistida por animais; interação homem-animal, terapia assistida por animais Contributions of animal-assisted interventions for the development of childrenABSTRACT. The aim of this article is to provide a review of the evidence on the effects of animal assisted interventions (IAA) on the emotional, behavioral, cognitive, educational and social development of children. The IAA's use of animals as mediators and are developed by a multidisciplinary team that includes educators, psychologists, psychopedagogues, therapists, nurses and veterinarians. Pets make people feel good, and a pet can improve health. Pets can relieve loneliness, reduce stress, anxiety and depression, promote social interaction, stimulate exercise and playfulness, and provide unconditional love and affection. Caring for a pet can help children grow safer and more active. In the field of education, pets enhance pedagogical practices and provide diverse spaces and actions that promote students' cognitive and psychosocial development. Therefore, IAAs assist in Jorge et al. 2 PUBVET v.12, n.11, a205, p.1-9, Nov., 2018various ways in the process of integral development of children. Finally, it is possible to note that in addition to the benefits and possibilities of IAAs in the interactions between animals and humans, it is expre...
