Objective: to enhance knowledge relating to the effects of nutrition education for children in pre-schools. Methodology: the authors conducted an integrative review of literature using scientific papers databases LILACS, SciELO, MEDLINE, and books. 54 publications were of collected the total 31 were excluded for not addressing the issue of research and do not achieve the objectives of the study. With all those who met the criteria mentioned above only 23 publications that were considered for analysis. Results: among the related studies, only 19 are embedded in the results and discussion of these (26%) talk about the most prevalent nutritional disorders in childhood, (37%) on the evaluation and nutritional status of children and (37%) the importance of nurse in health education activities among students. Conclusion: thus the study showed that the evaluation and nutritional status are paramount at all stages of an individual's life, because through these one can discover various diseases related for poor eating habits, and contribute to a better quality of children's lives. Finally, health education by nurses in the school environment is fundamental to this group, as it will help to develop a healthy lifestyle. Descriptors: Health Education. Nutritional Status. Objectives: to describe the knowledge of the nursing staff on the neonatal and analyze how the nursing staff of a maternity school contributes to neonatal screening. Methods: A descriptive study with a qualitative approach, subjects were sixteen professional nursing staff, from February to March 2012. Data collection was conducted through semi-structured interview. The data were arranged by similarity of responses, establishing analytical categories. Results: we found that the nursing staff has practical knowledge based on institutional routine neonatal screening, unaware of the specific diseases (diseases) of each test, and superficially not know specifically about what types of diseases each test detects. We consider that the nursing staff helps with referrals and guidance to new mothers, perform oversight and active pursuit of neonates are some procedures for effective newborn screening, while not reporting these aspects contribute. Conclusion: The study can provide the nursing staff making decisions in view of a more effective and efficient planning and adoption of measures. There is need for further technical and scientific knowledge in the area. Descriptors: Nursing staff.Newborn. Neonatal screening. Recém-nascido.Triagem neonatal.
