Palavras-chave: equinos, consanguinidade, depressão endogâmica, medidas lineares ABSTRACT The coefficient of inbreeding was estimate and its effect on linear traits of the Mangalarga Marchador horses reared in a ranch in the North of Minas
COST-BENEFIT ANALYSIS OF A MILK PRODUCTION SYSTEM WITH CROSSBRED ANIMALS IN NORTHERN MINAS GERAISABSTRACT: A simulation study was conducted to estimate the production costs of animals with different proportions of Holstein genes and annual return per cow in a herd from the northern region of Minas Gerais. Data from the zootechnical archive of Fazenda Queluz, Francisco Sá, MG, Brazil, comprising the period from 2007 to 2012 were used. The production system consists of crossbred Holstein x Zebu (HZ) cows with a genetic composition ranging from 1/4 HZ to 7/8 HZ.Total revenue per animal, annual profit per cow and variation in profitability were estimated over the years according to genetic composition. The revenue from milk production was greater for 7/8 HZ cows, but the estimated annual profit per cow was only 7.75% of total revenue, followed by 3/4 HZ cows which also exhibited low profit (4.11%). The highest profit was observed for 3/8 HZ cows, followed by 1/4 HZ and 1/2 HZ animals. Inversion of the genetic composition of the herd was observed over the years. In 2007, 64% of cows of the herd were 7/8 HZ, while in 2012, 7/8 HZ cows had been replaced with 1/4 HZ, 3/8 HZ and 1/2 HZ animals, accounting for 90% of all genotypes. Despite the greater production of animals with a higher proportion of Holstein genes, the change to cows with a higher proportion of genes of dairy Zebu breeds increased profitability, a fact that might be attributed to the greater economic efficiency of this genotype.
Análise genética de características ponderais e reprodutivas de fêmeas bovinas Tabapuã : 0.16, 0.25, 0.29, 0.03 and 0.01, respectively. The genetic correlations between weight at those ages and age at first calving were : -0,67; -0,07; -0,41, respectively, and between weights (at weaning, 365 and 550 days) and first calving interval were: 0.19, 0.79 and 0.54, respectively. These results showed a genetic antagonism between weight at different ages with first calving interval, but not with age at first calving.
SUMMARY The objective of this study was to evaluate the ingestive behavior of five different genetic groups of F1 Holstein x Zebu (HxZ) cows during lactation during the summer. The evaluated groups were: Holstein x Gir, Holstein x Nelogir, Holstein x Guzonel, Holstein x Nelore and x Indubrasil. The experiment it occurred place during the summer in the Farm of Agricultural Research Company of Minas Gerais, located in Felixlândia- MG. A completely randomized design with factorial arrangement 5 × 4, five crossings and four periods of observation, with ten repetitions was used. The measurements of climate variables were made using dataloggers and calculated the black globe temperature and humidity index. There was the percentage of animals grazing, rumination, urination, defecation, water intake and salt intake during the day and at night every 30 minutes. The F1 animals used did not affect the grazing behavior due to high BGT values. There was a higher frequency of rumination and idle period in the morning, showing a natural behavior of cattle. Defecation was higher during the day, coinciding with the period of greater movement of animals. Water consumption was greater in the post- milking and the salt consumption in the afternoon. There was a positive statistical correlation between BGT and grazing, and negative correlation between BGT and leisure. Thus, the F1 animals grazing behavior has not changed because of the high BGT values, explaining the adaptability and resilience of five genetic groups, being a viable option for warm climate regions.
