ABSTRACT. This study was conducted to measure the effects of the timing of nitrogen fertilization (NF) on soil N-NH 4 + and N-NO 3 -, macronutrient contents in the leaves and grains, and the grain yield of super early genotypes (SEG) of common bean. Field experiments were performed for four growing seasons in an Oxisol soil in Santo Antônio de Goiás, Brazil, using a randomized block experimental design in a split plot scheme. The plots were planted with common bean SEG, and the subplots were the NF timings, including a treatment without N fertilization. The available soil N with improved fertility and medium to high levels of organic matter were enough to meet the N demands of the common bean crop in order to achieve yields of up to 3,000 kg ha -1 . Fertilization with N, regardless of the time of application, provided no increase in the yield components, grain yield and the N, P and K contents in the leaves and grains of the common bean SEG. The genotypes CNFC 15873 and CNFC 15875 had higher grain yields in the rainfed summer, and the genotype CNFC 15874 had higher grain yields in the irrigated winter growing season. It can be inferred that the use of common bean SEG, with life cycles ranging from 65 to 77 days, can be a promising technology, providing grain yields similar to the control (IPR Colibri).
There is little information about common bean fertilization in African Savannas. The objectives of this study were as follows: i) to evaluate the common bean yield potential in the environmental conditions of Lichinga, Niassa, Mozambique, and ii) to determine the common bean response to phosphorus and potassium fertilization applied together in order to verify whether the interpretation of soil analysis for the Brazilian Cerrado could be adopted for Savanna soils in Mozambique. The experimental design was a randomized block design in a 5 x 4 x 2 factorial arrangement. Treatments consisted of a combination of phosphorus doses (0, 35, 70, 140 and 280 kg ha-1 of P2O5), potassium doses (0, 50 100 and 200 kg ha-1 of K2O), and different growing seasons (2012/2013 and 2013/2014). The field rainfed experiments were conducted in Lichinga city, province of Niassa. Common bean crops presented high productivity potential in rainfed systems in the environmental conditions of Lichinga, Niassa, Mozambique, reaching grain yields of up to 3,600 kg ha-1 depending on the rates of fertilization with phosphorus and potassium. Common beans responded to phosphorus and potassium fertilization despite high contents of these nutrients in the soil, according to the interpretation of soil analysis for the Brazilian Cerrado. Maximum grain yield in the average of two growing seasons was estimated to occur for 239 kg ha-1 of P2O5 and 141 kg ha-1 of K2O, indicating that further calibration studies for P and K are required for this specific region of Mozambique.
In the Cerrado of Bahia, there is a lack of information about sources, doses and forms of P application to the cotton crop that are important for increasing yield and fiber quality. In this study, an experiment was carried out in conventional tillage, using a 2 x 4 x 2 + 7 factorial scheme [P sources x doses x application forms plus seven additional treatments: combinations of proportions of sources and the control (without P)], with four replications. The P sources that were tested included the triple superphosphate (TS), Arad phosphate (AF) at doses of 60, 120, 180 and 240 kg ha -1 P 2 O 5 broadcasted on the surface or the seed rows. The additional treatments consisted of proportions of TS and FA for the 100 kg ha -1 P 2 O 5 .
