Objective To investigate the association between the habit of reading food labels and health related factors in elderly individuals who are members of social groups in the city of Governador Valadares, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Methods This cross-sectional study interviewed 141 individuals, members of elderly social groups. The socioeconomic and health profile was defined based on sex, age, marital status, educational level, disease occurrence, use of medication, physical exercise and self-perception of health. The habit of reading the food labels was assessed through the question: “Do you read the food label before purchasing or consuming the product?”. In case of an affirmative answer, researchers asked which items from the labels were observed by the individual. Weekly food intake was assessed through a food frequency questionnaire and classified in scores. The anthropometric evaluation was based on the calculation and classification of the Body Mass Index. A multinomial logistic regression was used to determine factors associated with the habit of reading the labels, and it was considered significant when p<0.025. Results The habit of reading labels was reported by 72.3% of the participants, whom predominantly verified the product’s expiration date (90.2%), followed by the amount of fat (18.4%) and sodium (16.7%) in it. This behavior was independently associated with a lower mean consumption of medicines, a lower per capita household consumption of sugar and a higher weekly frequency of per capita whole grain consumption. Conclusion The habit of reading the food labels is associated with a better health condition and with a healthier eating behavior among elderly individuals and it should be considered as an important nutritional strategy in this age group.

Butia capitata, native to the Brazilian cerrado, is underutilized for human consumption. The objective was to determine the physical characteristics of the fruit, centesimal composition, bioactive and antioxidant activity. Fruits obtained in Montes Claros, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Diameter, height and weight were evaluated. The moisture was analyzed by gravimetry after oven drying, ashes by calcining in a muffle furnace, proteins by the Kjeldahl method, gravimetric lipids after extraction in ethyl ether, carbohydrates by difference and total energy value by conversion factors. Vitamin C, E and carotenoids were analyzed by HPLC, minerals by inductively coupled plasma atomic absorption spectrometry, Folin Ciocalteu solution phenolic compounds, anthocyanins by spectrophotometry and antioxidant capacity by the Radical DPPH. The fruits presented good pulp yield (68.59%), which has a high lipid content (3.42 g.100 g -1 ) and total energy (83.34 kcal.100 g -1 ). The pulp contains ß-carotene (8.56 mg.100 g -1 ), vitamin E (121.07 mcg.100 g -1 ) and high concentrations of vitamin C (53.57 mg.100 g -1 ), total phenolics (493, 6 mg.100 g -1 ) and copper (1.80 mg.100 g -1 ). Almond has a high value of total energy (457.72 kcal.100 g -1 ), vitamin E (1594.39 mcg.100 g -1 ) and minerals Cu (2.40 mg.100 g -1 ) and Mo (0.9.100 g -1 ). The pulp is a source of carotenoids, vitamin C, copper and total phenolics, both natural antioxidants.

RESUMOObjetivos: Analisar a influência do tipo de parto na força muscular do assoalho pélvico (FMAP) de mulheres com incontinência urinária (IU), antes e depois de intervenção fisioterapêutica e determinar a relação entre os tipos de IU e tipos de parto.

Objetivo: Analisar as preparações de um cardápio oferecido aos estudantes universitários. Métodos: Para análise do cardápio foi utilizado o método de Análise Qualitativa das Preparações do Cardápio (AQPC). Foram avaliados os cardápios das refeições servidas no almoço de segunda a sexta, elaborados para o mês de abril de 2019. Os cardápios foram analisados seguindo os seguintes critérios: oferecimento de folhosos e frutas, monotonia de cores, presença de duas ou mais preparações ricas em enxofre, oferta de carne gordurosa, frituras, de forma isolada ou associadas aos doces e a oferta de doces como sobremesa. Resultados: De acordo com o método AQPC os cardápios apresentaram ofertas diárias de frutas, folhosos  e doces (100%). A ocorrência de carnes gordurosas, de alimentos ricos em enxofre e da monotonia de cores foram 57,1%, 47,6% e 38,1%, respectivamente. Já os critérios fritura, fritura associada a doces, apresentaram percentuais de ocorrência bem reduzidos (9,5%). Conclusão: Foi possível observar  que o cardápio do RU apresenta-se adequado com relação à presença diária de verduras e frutas e a baixa ocorrência de fritura e fritura mais doce. Com relação à oferta de carnes gordurosas e alimentos ricos em enxofre, alguns ajustes precisam ser implementados para melhorar a qualidade do cardápio. A ocorrência diária de doces deve ser objeto de atenção quanto ao planejamento dos cardápios, em função dos possíveis riscos de doenças crônicas na população atendida.
