Abstract:The aim of this clinical study was to examine corneas extracted from the patients during penetrating keratoplasty for the presence of immunoglobulins and inflammatory cells that can be warning for the graft failure. Individual clinical diagnoses were correlated to the presence of the inflammatory signs in corneal tissue. The signs of inflammation in corneal layers were detected especially in group of patients classified as viral keratitis but were also found in corneas of patients with degenerative diseases of the cornea. Depending on the number of keratoplasties no statistical difference in analysed parameters was found. Inflammatory process represented by slight positive presence cellular infiltration and/or immunoglobulins could be present in corneal tissue also in absence of acute manifestation. Histological and immunohistochemical evaluation of corneal tissue from patients undergoing penetrating keratoplasty could improve estimation of correct diagnosis. Subsequently prompt adequate therapy could improve worse prognosis of corneal graft with evident immune process.
Research background: In our paper, we focus on two important phenomena that are currently culminating and bringing their positive as well as negative consequences. They are globalization and the learning capital. In research, experts are primarily oriented on globalization, which we perceive so intensely in our daily lives. There exist extensive studies developed on a theoretical, methodological as well as empirical basis. Experts are intensively dealing also with the human capital and, above all, with its impact on various socio-economic phenomena. However, they are paying less attention to the learning capital, which we consider one dimension of the human capital. Purpose of the article: Link between the human capital and the economic growth has long been clarified, but the relation between the learning capital is not remained at forefront of the research intentions. For this reason, we have decided to examine the interconnectedness between globalization and the learning capital in selected EU countries and to determine its contribution to the economic growth. Methods: In quantification of globalization, we use the overall KOF Globalization Index, which consists of 3 components: the economic, social and political dimensions. There does not exist uniform procedure for examining the learning capital. For this reason, we rely on Human Development Index data. Findings & Value added: In the empirical analysis, we focus on the evaluation of the current state of globalization as well as the learning capital in the Slovak Republic and verify the established hypotheses concerning the interconnection of these two phenomena and their impact on the economic growth.
Working Poverty and Its Dimensions The importance of working poverty increased in 2003, owing to the European strategy in which one of the goals was to reduce the number of working people in poverty in the EU. Despite its seriousness, experts have not achieved a uniform theoretical model or definition. The situation is the same for methodology and empirics, which are determined by availability of statistical data. For these reasons, knowledge of working poverty is in its infancy. Therefore, we set a goal to take into account findings from past research into working poverty in the world, focusing primarily on the situation in Slovakia. Based on EU SILC 2016 data, we created our own model of variables in which we assumed that they determine the genesis and manifestations of working poverty in its particular structural components and we measured their intensity using the logistic regression and the decision tree model.
On 1 March 2017, the European Commission presented a White Paper on the future of Europe emphasizing the phenomenon of globalization. Its aim is to assess what globalization means and will mean to the EU. In 2000, the social quality became a strategy for the EU´s economic policy. It is long known that both phenomena bring with them a number of changes of positive and negative sense. We see them as processes that deeply affect the existing structures of each country. For this reason, we have set the aim of our paper to evaluate the existing situation in globalization as well as in the social quality in Slovakia and in the V4 countries and also to clarify the interconnection between the two important phenomena. Analysis is based on an innovated globalization index that can be mapped in three dimensions: economic, social and political. In the social quality research, we take into account created index of the social quality at our department. Using the data obtained, we assess the interconnection of manifestations of globalization and the social quality as well as the three dimensions of globalization with the conditional factors of social quality and consider their existing interdependence.
