Schlüsselwörter: Internationale Care Debatte · Care Begriff · Care Rationalität · Professionalität · Wohlfahrtsstaat · AkteurInnen It helped me very much that one could come here and sit down at the table and just have breakfast - Understanding care from the viewpoint of care receivers and care givers Abstract: The article tries to answer the question, what helps whom and how is it possible to find a definition of this help in the context of professional care. Brückner viewpoints of care receivers as well as care givers concerning their activities, their hopes and their requirements to become active. The respective understanding of care will be empirically analysed in the sense of a materialisation of the term care, based on the construction of the term as it is used in the gender theoretical international care debate. Care is existential because of human vulnerability and human mortality and its life long relevance therefore it is hard to be covered by an abstract term and needs to be supplemented and may be corrected by the every day oriented approach to social work via qualitative research. The origins of autonomous women's support projects in Germany lie in feminist challenges to notions of women's inferiority and the desire to protest male violence and abuse. The early visions and ways of working involved an idealization of women and their abilities to create nonhierarchical and egalitarian structures. This article explores the contradictions inherent in this model and the tensions it has produced in conjunction with the challenges of funding by the state and moves toward professionalization.
We are a group of social scientists from Austria, Germany and Switzerland who drew attention to the care crisis in a cross-national ‘Care manifesto’ as early as 2013. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, it has become impossible to overlook the crisis of care and we believe this
provides an opportunity to correct serious shortcomings in the care sector. That is why we are putting forward a new position paper ‐ ‘Clean up time! Redesigning care after COVID-19’ ‐ aiming at identifying problems in the wake of the pandemic and suggesting goals,
as well as the next work packages. We ask you to consider the demands in the position paper, disseminate it and discuss it in your networks and communities. Both the English and German versions are available on our website (see:
).
