Higher order thinking skills (HOTS) play an important role in developing learning materials for reading comprehension. The major purpose of this paper is to know the problems rose in reading comprehension and to identify the development of higher order thinking skills for the students’ Kuningan University. This paper discussed the phenomenon of Reading comprehension enhancement through Higher Order Thinking Skill (HOTS) strategy in Kuningan University and describes how the HOTS strategy develop the students’ skills in comprehending the academic reading text. The data collected by using a classroom observation in mobile and interview between student and the result will be discussed in the class, were analyzed qualitatively by using categories formulated based on theories related HOTS stategy. As a result, the author obtains the strategy Higher order Thinking skills on reading comprehension seen from the C1-C6 phase of HOTS strategy. This indicates that the most of students have higher order thinking skills in comprehending the text.. The findings are expected to be references for English teachers in the implementation of teaching strategy.
Translanguaging has been considered as an effective pedagogical approach to foster multilingualism. Previous studies have suggested further that teaching English through pedagogical translanguaging can increase participation of language-minoritized students and thus, promote minoritized language maintenance. However, it remains unclear as to what extent the assumed transformative power of translanguaging allows students to challenge prevailing monolingual ideologies that are gradually pushing minoritized language use to the periphery of society. There is growing evidence that promoting translanguaging practices to language-minoritized students can inadvertently contribute to their language shift from minoritized to majoritized languages (i.e., English and national languages). To maintain and extend this discussion, this article reports on a case study investigating the extent to which translanguaging practices in a tertiary-level EFL class in Indonesia contributes to the efforts to reverse language shift from Javanese to Indonesian and English. The data were drawn from audio-recorded classroom interactions, artefacts of student work and follow-up semi-structured interviews. The findings suggest that translanguaging pedagogy can support minoritized language maintenance only when language inequalities and language hierarchies are transgressed. Furthermore, the effectiveness of translanguaging in maintaining Javanese seemingly relies on whether students have enough proficiency in the Javanese language. Otherwise, the endorsement of translanguaging in this polity may be perceived as an opportunity to practice more dominant languages.
<p>Aki merupakan alat yang dapat menyimpan energi listrik dalam bentuk energi kimia. Aki banyak digunakan pada kendaraan bermotor dan untuk menyalakan lampu rumah saat terjadi pemadaman. Komponen aki terdiri dari elektroda dan elektrolit. Cairan elektrolit aki yang digunakan yaitu cairan asam sulfat (H2SO4) atau biasa disebut aki zuur. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memanfaatkan campuran buah belimbing wuluh dengan kulit pisang sehingga dapat dijadikan pengganti alternatif elektrolit yang ramah lingkungan. Metode yang digunakan adalah menentukan perbandingan persentase volume dari buah belimbing wuluh dengan kulit pisang sehingga dapat menghasilkan tegangan DC dan arus yang maksimal kemudian diubah menjadi tegangan AC dengan menggunakan inverter. Perbandingan campuran buah belimbing wuluh dan kulit pisang dengan perbandingan 90% : 10%; 80% : 20%; 70% : 30%. Aki dengan persentase buah belimbing wuluh dan kulit pisang 90% : 10% merupakan aki terbaik yang mempunyai ketahanan waktu selama 24 Jam dengan nilai tegangan sebelum dibebani yaitu 12,1 Volt, tegangan setelah dibebani yaitu 7,8 Volt dan arusnya sebesar 0,019 Ampere. Sedangkan 5 box aki menggunakan inverter dengan persentase 90% : 10% menghasilkan gelombang AC dengan tegangan 1,8 Volt ketika dibebani menjadi 1,4 Volt dengan arus listrik 0,0186 Ampere ketika beban 75 Ohm. <br />Kata Kunci: Aki, Belimbing Wuluh, Kulit pisang, Inverter</p>
Ngawi Regency, part of East Java province in Indonesia, has started to initiate the development of organic tourism based on the organic agriculture potential. This study aimed to explore agricultural resources and land suitability that can be developed as community-based organic tourism attractions and identification of supporting factors and inhibiting factors the development of community-based organic tourism attractions. There were several stages in this study consisting of study field observations, in-depth interviews, and focus group discussion to collect information. In this study data were analyzed by spatial analysis techniques to explore the agricultural resources and land suitability. As the result, we found the needs and roles of community in developing agro-tourism areas. The development of agrotourism areas requires community participation in various sectors. Economic point of view plays an important role in management of agro-tourism areas, as without economic benefits there is no motivation to contribute to community and businesses of agro-tourism. Since the agro-tourism has effects to environment, both natural and cultural, therefore taking advantage of agricultural resources need to be carefully considered in developing a community-based organic tourism attractions. In addition, the environmental elements must be preserved for sustainable benefit and function.
This study aims at improving the writing ability of grade seventh through contextualization at a state junior high school in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Contextualization means to teach language in a context or to provide a context for language teaching to the language teaching and learning process connected with real life. The study was an action research. Three cycles consisting of nine meetings were performed. A class of grade seven students at the school was the subjects of this study. Data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing or verification were used to analyze students' writing qualitatively. Descriptive quantitative analysis was also used to analyze the data. The results show some improvements in the students' writing ability. First, students felt that their learning was meaningful. Second, students were motivated in writing. Third, students could express their ideas and develop them into paragraphs. Fourth, students' grammatical mistakes were reduced. The result of quantitative data showed that the average scores of the content, paragraph organization, vocabulary, language use, and mechanics improved significantly. In terms of the process, the students' positive behavior on the verbal and non-verbal aspects improved while their negative behavior decreased.
Climate change can cause an increase in the earth’s surface temperature and atmospheric CO2. This has an impact on the tourism area based on local agricultural wisdom. The research aims to analyze the level of tourism vulnerability management and formulate tourism vulnerability management strategies to support local wisdom preservation in current farming practices. The method used is mapping, field observations, and interviews with two approaches, namely quantitative content analysis and qualitative content analysis. The results showed that the farming community was only profit-oriented without paying attention to balancing and preserving the natural environment. Most farmers want all agricultural processes to be done instantly or quickly, with higher yields. However, they leave local wisdom values and socio-cultural contexts in managing the rice field environment. One of the components of local wisdom that can still be maintained is the cropping pattern primarily found in the highlands that can still be found. To manage the vulnerability of tourism to support the preservation of local wisdom in current agricultural practices.
In the coronavirus pandemic, learning relies heavily on online learning methods, the effectiveness of learning can be assumed as less effective by using the online learning method. Various weaknesses are found in the current implementation of online learning methods. One of the weaknesses is the lack of learning effectiveness which has an impact on students' work is less optimal. To support online learning, a painting tutorial video-based was created to make more effective and students can study the material more comprehension in groups or independently. the implementation of video tutorialbased learning media was able to make it easier for teachers to do online learning so that learning effectiveness reached 74.5% and student work became more optimal.
