SUMMARY Introduction. At present and due to scientific advances in the medicinal field, the average lifespan of the elderly has been radically extended, since there is a greater number of subjects over 60 years of age. Objectives. Determine the validity, relevance and reliability of the instrument, identify the role of nursing in the care of the elderly with chronic-degenerative diseases at the León Becerra de Milagro hospital; evaluate the emotional state of older adults. Materials and Method: Mixed research, cutting cross-sectional, descriptive, the instrument was designed for research based on the objectives and the theoretical content is validated by expert judgment and confirmed by Cronbach's alpha; I know a pilot plan is working with 20 older adults; qualitative research is phenomenological; I know The saturation interview was used as a technique. Results: The quantitative instrument shows a reliability of 89.3%, which is equivalent to reliable, with a Cronbach's alpha of 0.90; the role of Nursing is purely preventive in 87%; cures are performed as part of the elderly care; qualitative survey; tendencies to depression are defined, with symptoms of anxiety and uncertainty, feelings of helplessness with persecutory ideas and suidas. Conclusions: The lack of instruments hinders research success, with validation the scientific criteria of the data are broadened and can be replicated; the instrument was approved by its validity, relevance and reliability; that is, that it is suitable to apply it to the sample that presents this research. The instruction they receive from the nurses decreases the hospital visits.
