New distribution data for 171 bryophyte taxa in the Roztocze National Park are provided. Among them there are 43 species protected by law in Poland, including 20 strictly protected species, as well as 13 species threatened in Poland. The research revealed 36 species (5 liverworts and 31 mosses) new for the region. Noteworthy is the occurrence of 19 mountain species and 10 bryophytes thought to be relicts of old-growth forests what confirms the specificity of nature of the Roztocze region. The most valuable and interesting finds are: mosses Campylophyllopsis sommerfeltii (Myrin) Ochyra, Dicranum viride (Sull. & Lesq.) Lindb., Buxbaumia viridis (Moug. ex Lam. & DC.) Brid. ex Moug. & Nestl. as well as liverworts Calypogeia suecica (Arnell et J. Perss.) Müll. Frib. and Cephalozia catenulata (Huebener) Lindb. A brief characterisations of these species are presented.
Information on distribution and habitats of 176 bryophyte species revealed by a survey of the Wolin Island conducted during the 12 th Bryological Workshop organised by the Bryological Section of the Polish Botanical Society is presented. The most interesting (rare, protected and threatened
Carex pallidula is a European species which is often overlooked because it is similar in appearance to C. digitata. So far, this species has been recorded from ten European countries. During herbarium studies in 2014 and 2015, the occurrence of C. pallidula was confirmed for another six European countries (Albania, Austria, Greece, Romania, Serbia, and Switzerland), providing a new insight into its distribution. A list of new localities of C. pallidula and a distribution map for Europe are provided. A key for determining some taxa within the section Clandestinae is presented. Finnish material of the supposed hybrid of C. digitata and C. pallidula is considered to be young specimens of C. digitata.
Amblystegium radicale has a boreal-temperate-type range (düll & MeinunGer 1989), but, according to some authors, it is an amfiatlantic species (rusińska 1981). According to dierssen (2001), A. radicale is rare in the whole geographical range but is overlooked. In Poland, it is a vulnerable species (Żarnowiec et al. 2004), and it is threatened in Europe (schuMacker & Martiny 1995). This taxon is known mainly from the
AbstrAct:The wetlands at the Odra estuary in the environs of the Szczecin and Kamieński lagoons were surveyed for the occurrence of vertiginids, identifying their habitats and accompanying malacofauna. In total, 22 land snail species were recorded, among them five species of Vertigo: V. angustior Jeffreys (5 localities), V. moulinsiana (Dupuy) (3), V. antivertigo (Draparnaud) (15), V. pygmaea (Draparnaud) (20) and V. substriata (Jeffreys) (2). The localities of the protected V. angustior and V. moulinsiana were situated along the Dziwna Strait and the Kamieński Lagoon. In the Odra estuary, V. angustior and V. moulinsiana occurred in four plant communities: sedge beds Caricetum gracilis, Caricetum distichae, Caricetum acutiformis and herbs of the Lysimachio-Filipenduletum association. The inventory showed that the protected vertiginids could inhabit a landscape altered by human activities if the surrounding areas ensured constant humidity. On the contrary, intensive agricultural activities on the polders surrounding the Szczecin Lagoon excluded their occurrence. The passive transport of snails by backwater current in the Kamieński Lagoon from the abundant populations in the Karpinek Bay (both species present) may account for the distribution of vertiginids in the study area.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
