INovas características para diferenciação de cultivares de soja pela análise discriminante New traits for differentiation of soybeans using discriminant analysis
ABSTRACT:The domestic dog (Canis familiaris) is the species of greatest morphological diversity among mammals. Seventy-four Labrador Retriever dogs-27 males and 47 females -were used in this experiment. Thirty quantitative biometric characteristics, related to morphology were measured. The objective of this study was to evaluate the morphometric traits of the Labrador Retriever breed to establish descriptive biometric attributes that may show sexual dimorphism through principal component analysis (PCA) and discriminant analysis (DA). The PCA was processed using all the variables and performing a pre-selection of the most correlated variables. The DA was performed for the 30 variables and also for the five most correlated variables with the first component (CP1), in order to classify new individuals. The PCA was able to identify sexual dimorphism in size, with both the 30 original variables as with the preselected variables, the latter optimized the reduction to two principal components. The DA was able to discriminate the two populations, both for 30 variables as for the five variables most correlated with the CP1. The functions with five variables can be used to classify other purebred dogs for sex, with an error of about 6.75%.
Palavras-chave: análise multivariada, seleção assistida por marcadores, significância genômica, simulação Levels of significance on the identification of molecular markers in genomic mappingABSTRACT -Different levels of genomic significance were used in assisted selection by markers to estimate the phenotypic value, the number of markers used in the selection and the percentage of favorable and unfavorable alleles fixed in a quantitative characteristic. A comparison among the levels 0.5; 1; 2; 4; 6; 8; 10; 12; 14; 16; 18 and 20 was done by using the computer system of gene simulation (GENESYS), used for simulation of a genome consisted of a quantitative character with heritability equal to 0.20. From the initial population, the evaluation of the twelve levels of significance by selection assisted by markers was carried out using the phenotypic values obtained for 10 generations. The cluster method by composite link was applied by using the average Euclidean distance as dissimilarity measure among the genomic significances. There are similarities among the phenotypic values obtained with significance levels from 4 to 16%, which are superior to the highly significant (from 0.5 to 2%) and to the extremely suggestive levels (18 and 20%), because of the phenotypic gains obtained over generations under selections.Key Words: genomic significance, multivariate analysis, selection assisted by markers, simulation Revista Brasileira de Zootecnia IntroduçãoO melhoramento genético molecular visa integrar as metodologias e técnicas empregadas no melhoramento genético tradicional com as tecnologias e estratégias da biologia molecular (Dekkers & Hospital, 2002). ABSTRACT. This study aimed to verify the effect of age of dam on the performance of male and female Nellore calves, using the following variables: average daily gain (ADG), adjusted weight for 205 days of age (W205), and number of days to reach 160 kg (D160). Information were collected from a commercial herd consisting of 1,122 calves and 1,009 heifers and their mothers. To classify animals with similar performance based on the cows' calving orders (age of dam), the multivariate cluster analysis was adopted through the complete linkage hierarchical method. The best performance was observed in the calves of cows in their sixth calving at most; for heifers, the best performance was seen in those born to cows in their eighth calving at most. Cows in their eighth calving should be discarded. Keywords: average daily gain, cluster analysis, cow age, number of days to reach 160 kg, weaning weight.
Cluster analysis of different marker densities in genetic mapping using genome scanSimulation has contributed to the advancement of genomics in the different areas of genetic improvement. Genetic mappings were simulated using different densities of genetic markers to estimate phenotypic values of quantitative traits with heritabilities of 0.10; 0.40 and 0.70 in marker assisted selection (MAS). Cluster analysis with phenotypic performances was carried out to generate classification structures among the densities aiming to optimize QTL detection . The genetic simulation system (Genesys) was used to simulate three genomes (each consisting of a single characteristic differing in the heritability value) and the base and original populations. Each initial population was subjected to selection assisted by markers for 20 consecutive generations, in which selected parents mated selectively, between best and worst. The mapping using medium to high marker density showed efficiency in the phenotypic progress
