Thus, this study aimed to investigate socio-cultural aspects and their impact on body image of women who underwent bariatric surgery in pre and postsurgery periods. We interviewed 20 women who underwent gastroplasty for at least one year in the Service Control Hypertension Diabetes and Obesity (SCHDO). Data were analyzed from a qualitative perspective and submitted to Content Analysis. The interaction between body image and socio-cultural context were configured in the follow categories: discrimination, perception of other's gaze before and after surgery, and own body´s perception before and after surgery. It was found that body image was drawn from the environment that the research group had lived. The external environment has provided to the subjects some feelings such as body inadequacy, sadness, social exclusion and inferiority, resulting in a negative self-concept. These feelings were minimized after bariatric surgery, providing to the group a positive self-concept, due to a greater social inclusion.
Objective To analyze the published studies that investigated the physical function, activities of daily living and health-related quality of life in COVID-19 survivors. Design Systematic review. Methods We searched MEDLINE/PubMed, Scopus, SciELO, and Cochrane Library for studies that evaluated the physical function, activities of daily living and health-related quality of life after COVID-19 from the earliest date available to July 2021. Two independent reviewers screened and selected the studies. The Newcastle Ottawa Scale was used to evaluate methodological quality. Results We included 35 studies in this systematic review. Of the 35 studies included, 28 were cohort, and 7 cross-sectional studies The studies demonstrated that COVID-19 survivors had reduced levels of physical function, activities of daily living, and health-related quality of life. Furthermore, incomplete recovery of physical function, and performance in activities of daily living were observed 1 to 6 months post-infection. Discussion Physical disability and reduction in health-related quality of life is a common condition in post-COVID-19 and impairments may persist up to 1 to 6 months. Researchers and clinicians can use these findings to understand the potential disabilities and rehabilitation needs of people recovering from the COVID-19.
ABSTRACTThe present study is derived from the research "Gender, Body and Aging in Women at Middle Age" and deals with the emergence of the category menopause as a biopsychossocial landmark of female aging, indicated through the interviews conducted by the qualitative exploratory study in question. This class comes from the use of content analysis as a methodology for processing data obtained from a panel sample of 47 participants from the same social reality and registered in the Basic Health Unit used as reference. It was noted that 41 of the 47 interviewed cited the menopause as determinant landmark of aging process, and 37 did it directly. Thus, the article provides a discussion between what is proposed by the literature and the landmark pointed by the participants of the research.
Functional training in circuit format can be used as a strategy to alter body composition in postmenopausal women, particularly in terms of reduction of adipose tissue. This is a model that promotes high adhesion on the part of the participants, suggesting that it is an attractive proposal for the investigated age group.
Abstract-This study assessed the attitudes about the inclusion of students with disability by professionals in education and health, relative to their experience and training. We compared three groups: 20 teachers and trainees who worked in an adapted physical education program (GI); 75 professionals from the municipal education system of Rio Claro subdivided according to their experience-CGyes e CGno, respectively, with and without experience. We used the inventory adapted by Palla (2001) to assess participants' attitudes and self-concepts. Overall, individuals in the group that participated in the intervention maintained their tendency of being favorable toward inclusion. Teachers in regular school settings in the municipal school system of Rio Claro (São Paulo, Brazil), regardless of their experience with inclusive settings, remain mostly indecisive about the benefits of inclusion. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of combined (CT; strength plus aerobic) and functional training (FT) on the body composition and metabolic profile with a similar training load in postmenopausal women. The participants were divided into three groups: CT (n=20), FT (n=17), and control group (CG, n=15). The trunk FM, fat mass (FM), percentage of FM (FM%), and fat-free mass were estimated by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. The metabolic profile, glucose, triacylglycerol, total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c) were assessed. There were main effects of time in trunk fat, FM, and FM% (P<0.05). There were statistically significant interaction for FM (P=0.015), FM% (P=0.017) with lower values for CT group. For LDL-c, there was significant interaction (P=0.002) with greater values for FT group in relation to CG and CT. Furthermore, when performed the post hoc test on the “mean absolute differences” (Δ), it can observed statistically significant difference between FT, CT, and CG (−13.0±16.5 mg/dL vs. 4.8±18.4 mg/dL vs. 9.2±18.8 mg/dL, P<0.05). In conclusion, when training loads are equivalent CT potentiated a reduction in FM and FM%, however, only FT reduced LDL-c in postmenopausal women.
