BackgroundVenous ulcers constitute an important public health problem as they can cause disability with consequences for multiple dimensions of quality of life.ObjectiveTo describe the quality of life in patients with venous leg ulcer treated in primary care in two cities from Brazil and Portugal.MethodsThis was a cross-sectional comparative study with a non-probabilistic sample of 171 patients with venous leg ulcers who were treated in primary care in two cities from Brazil and Portugal, namely, Natal and Évora. A form covering sociodemographic and health data and the Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey were used, and descriptive and inferential analyses were performed.ResultsSignificant differences in age and income were observed between the two samples. Patients with venous leg ulcer from Brazil had lower income and were younger than those from Portugal. Quality of life scores were significantly higher in Portugal for the physical aspects, pain, and social functioning, among domains, and for the physical health dimension and total score of QOL.ConclusionThe quality of life was better in Portugal than in Brazil and the differences between the countries need further investigation.
This study aimed to validate an instrument for evaluation the ability of nursing students to measure the blood pressure. It is a methodological study, developed with 27 nurses, teachers of semiology and/or semiotic disciplines, with at least 1 year of experience in disciplines, which acted as judges of the study. It was accomplished in two steps: first, a review of the literature to build the checklist instrument and subsequent submission for content validation by applying the Kappa, accepting the value > 0.61 (good level); and second, it was accomplished a Content Validity Index (CVI) > 0.75. Based on the literature review, 28 items were included in the checklist, with all of them showing Kappa index and CVI accepted for content validity, and nine of those items needed changes. The instrument can be considered valid in its content, with all its items being considered appropriate separately, as well as globally.
Objective: To validate the content of a virtual learning object in the format of a Role Playing Game - educational simulation game about basic life support, aimed at academics and health professionals. Method: Methodological, construction and validation study with qualitative data approach on the content of a virtual learning object, conducted between August and September 2016. Results: The game was developed in 13 screens, of which nine presented contents of basic life support, and the others presented general guidelines for progress in the game. The five suggestions of the experts were accepted by the researchers, and were mostly related to organization, clarity and vocabulary. No item was considered inappropriate by the judges, and the game had a mean content validity index of 0.96 and a Kappa value of 0.92. In the Likert scale evaluation, the game was considered in all analyzes as an excellent content for a virtual learning object. Conclusion: This learning technology is expected to support teaching of basic life support techniques for academics and health professionals, and to stimulate the development of similar teaching strategies in other scenarios, in order to bring advancements to the design of health training processes.
Objective: to assess the knowledge of scholars on Nursing regarding simple hands hygiene (SHH), blood pressure measurement (BP), peripheral venipuncture (PV) with venous catheter and male urethral catheterization delay (UCD) procedures. Method: quantitative study carried out between February and May 2014, with 186 undergraduate Nursing students from 5 th to 9 th period of a public university of Rio Grande do Norte, with application of four questionnaires. One carried out descriptive and analytic analysis. Results: the students presented low average percentage of right answers, especially in blood pressure measurement (55.5%); SHH's average was higher than 70%. The average of correct answers was the highest in SHH (8.6), followed by UCD (7.8), PV (7.4) and BP (6.7). The questions regarding the topic "concepts" showed less correct answers when comparing it to the topic "technique steps". Conclusion: it is necessary to establish knowledge monitoring strategies, in order to stimulate the constant improvement. Objective: to describe the content construction and validation process of the Distance Education Basic Life Support Course. Method: methodological study, developed through literature review, outlined in the light of the Bloom's Taxonomy and Ausubel's Meaningful Learning Theory. For validation, the analysis was performed with judges, using a structured tool. Results: the construction of the distance course was complex and challenging, since it was tried to develop it with logical-methodological coherence, considering the constructivist perspective, representing an advance in the process of dissemination of the Urgency and Emergency teaching culture. As for the content validation process, it was verified that of the 16 suggestions made by the judges, 14 were accepted and two rejected. Conclusion: the course had its contents validated by experts.
