Palavras-chave: vegetação, solos metalíferos, metais pesados em plantas.ABSTRACT -Plants from Serra dos Carajás, state of Pará, and Cadeia do Espinhaço, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, were analyzed for Cu, Pb, Ni, Cd, Co, Mn and Fe concentrations. The results indicate that plants from Carajás concentrate Cu, Pb, Ni, Cr and Fe above background values, and those from the state of Minas Gerais concentrate Ni, Mn, Cu, Pb, Cd and also Fe. Based on the results and on the physionomical aspects of the vegetation we can S) :culate on the existence of differente types of metaIophylic vegetation in these areas, which may belong to a single biogeochemical province (Carajás -Espinhaço) which is rich in iron and other heavy metaIs.
Palavras-chave: Orquídeas, biodiversidade, Biogeografia.ABSTRACT -(Preliminary results of an inventory of the Orchidaceae family in the Brazilian Amazon) A total of 378 species of 99 genera were registered, some of these species are new to science while and others are new records for the Brazilian flora.Key Words: Orchid, biodiversity, Biogeography.
The metaIs analyzed were iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), copper (Cu), nickel (Ni), chorium (Cr) and lead (Pb) . The leveIs of exchangeable metaIs in the soil were similar at the edge and in the center of the mineral deposito The tissues of the five plant species analyzed had abnormally high leveIs of Fe, Ni and Cr. Each of the plant species tested is tolerant of the metaIs considered. It is assumed that the interaction of these metaIs neutralizes their damaging effects on the plants studied. This interaction is a form of tolerance. Baunhia pulchella surpassed the other species in the accumulation of nickel. It is possible that the high concentration if Ni in this plant is related to the xerophytic conditions of the "canga' environment.
PALAVRAS CHAVE: Orchidaceae, Amazônia Legal, Diversidade Checklist of Orchidaceae from State of Maranhão, Brazil.ABSTRACT -The Maranhão State is part of "Amazônia Legal", and has been one of the most affected by the impacts of projects to environment, and leading to extintion many species of plants and animals, some of them not discovered by science. A study with the orchids flora of Maranhão state for about 12 years registered the occurence of 103 different species of Orchidaceae. These results show a great variety of the species in this this family and how much it was unknown, since, before this study, of only 10 different species of Orchidaceae, were cited the in Brazilian State of Maranhão.
