Metropolises are currently regarded as nodes in a global network of flows, becoming the driving forces for territorial development, characterised by high potential of creativity and the innovations generated as a result. A contemporary challenge is to find adequate concepts for analysing and understanding metropolitan innovativeness. The objective of the article is to provide the necessary features by which a new approach to studying metropolitan inventiveness can be adopted. The formulation of this model was inspired by the independently functioning concepts of metropolisation, innovativeness, and the concepts of place. By considering these three perspectives together and their specific methods of analysis, it is possible to describe and explain the process of generating innovations in contemporary metropolises. This article is divided into three main sections illustrating how the concepts of innovation environments, networks, and districts combined with the dynamic concept of place, all relate to innovation place. The analysis presented serves as the basis for the model of an innovation place, it being essential to future initiatives in this sphere of study. The article concludes with methodological remarks indicating the potential use for “innovation space” model.
The paper presents the results of sociological qualitative research on safety management in work organization. The focus was on how to adapt the workforce to the sanitary regime during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic in the lignite mining and energy sector in the Bełchatów poviat (Łódź voivodeship, Poland). The study aimed to identify the dimensions of safety and the work culture created in crisis conditions as perceived by workers. Based on the conducted analysis, the process of adapting employees to the new rules of work organization was reported, including the transition from fear and anxiety to control over threats and negative emotions. The essence of the research was to support institutional memory to consolidate the existing knowledge and use it in the future.
Contemporary practitioners and scientists more and more frequently highlight the extraordinarily rapid process of implementation of new technologiesincluding those based on artificial intelligence -and unpredictable consequences of such actions. Therefore, it is important to be an active participant in the debate on the relation between human and modern technologies, a debate based on interdisciplinary scientific knowledge. The article refers to selected ideas related to knowledge management, organisational learning, knowledge area, or innovation environment. The challenge which social science researchers face, next to examining the theoretical aspects, is the application of various calculation methods and new technologies to make quicker and easier decisions in social contexts -with regard to various groups of people, e.g. employees, customers, or voters. Apart from the new methods, another serious challenge is to raise social awareness regarding the digital responsibility in certain groups such as managers or, more generally, employers and employees. The responsibility of the elite and scientific authorities should consist in instilling awareness in one another and approaching the new phenomenon with care. Potential threats may completely change our civilisation. The presented discussion is based on literature study which included selected theories and reports of research centres and scientific bodies. A particularly interesting case study discussed in this article includes TOP CDR initiative and a report prepared by SW RESEARCH agency in cooperation with Procontent public relations and digital marketing agency. The conclusions of this report indicate that corporate digital responsibility (CDR) may be a pioneering area for in-depth empirical studies. The main goal of the study will be to pay attention to awareness of technological and digital development. Sense of responsibility unites certain groups of entrepreneurs, scientists and decision-makers. The main principles of the idea of corporate social responsibility are related to maintaining balance in business activity between three kinds of capital - economic, human and natural. Following the technological and digital development in recent years, more attention is given to socially responsible creation and implementation of innovation. Corporate Digital Responsibility (CDR), which in recent months has been taking formal shape, is a new initiative within social responsibility. CDR means the awareness of duties binding the organisations active in the field of technological development and using technologies to provide services. The article refers to the dynamic development of technologies that threatens also global labour market due to automation and mass implementation of solutions based on artificial intelligence. Being aware of this dynamic process it is worth to emphasise that businesses and employees have far less time to thoroughly examine social consequences of ongoing implementations related to digitalisation.
In this article is drawn attention to the social aspects of improving the quality of production. The relationship between the development of technology and society is still underappreciated. There is a vital need to make technical managers aware of the rules governing interpersonal relationships. This theoretical article aims to bring the basic concepts of social sciences closer to recipients focused on constant improvement of the production quality. The essence of the work process is primarily the fact that it is done by a human being and mostly in a group of people. This is related to the consequences of sociological nature to which managers do not pay enough attention. Instead of focusing on social and interpersonal problems they are dealing with organizational issues. The conclusion of consideration leads to underlining the need for constant improvement-manager training in social engineering principles.
