Dans l'étude des bandes de fluorescence des A2B6 diversement activés, il existe une étroite dépendance entre les distributions spectrales, d'une part de l'énergie lumineuse émise et d'autre part de la cinétique des recombinaisons radiatives correspondantes [1 à 3]. L'importance relative des transitions à processus rapides augmente lorsqu'on a recours à des excitations modulées de fréquences croissantes. Pour les centres luminogènes Ag dans ZnS, une nouvelle bande ultraviolette culminant vers λ = 340 nm (3,65 eV) est ainsi découverte.
Il a été récemment établi [1] que chaque modèle proposé pour la constitution des centres luminogènes responsables d'une large bande spectrale de fluorescence implique une forme bien déterminée du graphe de la distribution spectrale des probabilités de recombinaisons. La recherche d'un moyen expérimental d'enregistrement de la forme de ce graphe (sens de variation, position des minimums ou des maximums) s'avère donc essentielle pour décider dans chaque cas de la validité de ces modèles. Nous décrivons ici les principes théoriques et une méthode permettant d'y parvenir. Dans le cas des processus spontanés, la mesure la plus précise de la durée de vie τ(λ) dans des intervalles étroits successifs de la bande spectrale est fournie par la mesure du déphasage φ entre une excitation sinusoïdale et le signal fluorescent qui en résulte. Pour les processus quadratiques, la probabilité de la recombinaison dépend non seulement d'un facteur γ caractéristique des centres mais aussi de la concentration des porteurs de charge à chaque instant. L'intégration de l'équation de cinétique n'étant pas mathématiquement possible dans le cas d'une intensité sinusoïdale d'excitation (équation de Mathieu) a pu ětre effectuée avec une excellente approximation à l'aide d'un ordinateur. La méthode de phase peut encore leur ětre appliquée, ainsi qu'à des processus plus complexes. La cinétique de transport des charges, la présence des pièges, l'existence de recombinaisons non‐radiatives interviennent dans la mesure de φ, mais non de sa variation avec λ. Le principe de plusieurs appareillages que nous avons construits pour obtenir de telles informations de cinétique de fluorescence sous excitation, soit cathodique, soit photonique, est ensuite exposé. Nous nous bornons dans cet article aux résultats obtenus dans le cas d'un modèle de centres incontestable: celui de l'ion cérium trivalent inclus dans ZnS. Leur confrontation avec les déductions théoriques est satisfaisante. De nombreux autres luminophores ont été également étudieés à l'aide de ces appareillages. Les résultats, également confirmatifs de l'intérět de telles mesures de cinétique de fluorescence, feront l'objet de prochaines publications.
