La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo: interpretar el significado atribuido al consumo de frutas y hortalizas en un grupo de familias de Turbo. El enfoque metodológico fue cualitativo, el cual permitió comprender las realidades alimentarias de los sujetos que vivencian la situación y en los escenarios y contextos donde ocurrieron los hechos. El método utilizado fue la etnografía; las técnicas para recabar la información fueron la entrevista cualitativa, el grupo de discusión y la observación. Hallazgos: en las familias participantes quienes más consumen frutas y hortalizas son las madres y los niños menores de nueve años, éstas son también quienes enseñan a los menores a consumir dichos alimentos. A las frutas y hortalizas les atribuyen propiedades en la prevención y curación de enfermedades, principalmente respiratorias y del tracto gastrointestinal.
Se presentan los hallazgos de un estudio cualitativo, realizado en el departamento de Antioquia, Colombia, cuyo objetivo fue reconocer las estrategias de afrontamiento a las cuales recurren hogares en situaciones críticas de acceso a los alimentos. Desde la perspectiva de la etnografía focalizada, se recolectó información en nueve municipios, mediante entrevistas individuales y grupales a hombres y mujeres adolescentes, adultos y adultos mayores de zonas urbanas y rurales, con diferentes roles sociales, también se realizaron observaciones en lugares relacionados con alimentación. Se encontró que las situaciones críticas de acceso a los alimentos se relacionan con dinámicas económicas, ambientales y sociales que se viven en los municipios y afectan la disponibilidad local y el acceso físico y económico de las familias. La escasez de alimentos puede ser transitoria o crónica y las estrategias de afrontamiento instauradas pueden situarse en el nivel del hogar, como la restricción en la compra de ciertos alimentos o el reemplazo de preparaciones, o pueden ser del ámbito social, como el intercambio de alimentos, las prácticas solidarias con vecinos y familiares o el acceso a programas institucionales. Las familias que cuentan con redes de apoyo o producen alimentos enfrentan mejor esos momentos de difícil acceso. En conclusión, el acceso a los alimentos va más allá de la esfera doméstica, se instaura en el nivel social y político; por consiguiente, se requieren acciones estatales en diversos ámbitos que contribuyan a la equidad y promuevan sistemas alimentarios más sostenibles.
Objetivo Interpretar la percepción de hambre y escasez de alimentos en familias beneficiarias de Programas alimentarios MANA (Mejoramiento Alimentario y Nutricional de Antioquia) en Vigía del Fuerte.Método La investigación se orientó desde el enfoque cualitativo, usando la Etnografía Focalizada como método, para la recolección de la información se utilizaron entrevistas individuales y grupos de discusión.Resultados Las comunidades de la cuenca del río Murrí están protegidas del hambre física por la disponibilidad permanente del plátano; el hambre está asociada a la ausencia de carne o “liga” y al hecho de comer “plátano vacío”; así mismo se refieren al hambre como la sensación de desasosiego, debido al dolor de cabeza y de estómago que experimentan de manera permanente e intensa.Conclusiones A pesar de que las comunidades vigieñas disponen durante todo el tiempo de plátano, protegiéndolas del hambre física; estas no lo aprecian así, como alimento que calma su hambre y los libera, de cierta manera, de la escasez, porque su presencia como único alimento disponible, les recuerda, precisamente, que tienen carencia y hambre.
