Background: The SBAR (situation, background, assessment, recommendation) method assists nurses in communicating information in nursing shift handover. Inaccurate shift handover can have a serious impact on patients due to poor communication. Optimal resource development can be done by coaching as the best guidance method from manager for directional discussion and guidance activity to learn to solve problem or do better job and build nursing leadership culture in clinical service.Objective: To analyze the effectiveness of coaching method using SBAR communication tool on nursing shift handovers.Methods: This was quasy experimental study with pretest posttest control group design. Fifty-four nurses were selected using consecutive sampling, which 27 assigned in the experiment and control group. An observation checklist was developed by the researchers based on the theory of Lardner to evaluate the effectiveness of the implementation of coaching using SBAR on nursing shift handover. Independent t-test, Mann-Whitney test and Wilcoxon test were used for data analyses. Results: There was an increase in coaching ability of head nurses in the implementation of SBAR in nursing handover after 2-weeks and 4-weeks of coaching. And there was also a significant improvement of the use of SBAR on nursing shift handover in the experiment group (p <0.05) compared to the control group. Conclusion: coaching using SBAR (situation, background, assessment, recommendation) communication tool was effective on nursing shift handovers. There was a significant increase of the capability of head nurse and nursing shift handover after coaching intervention.
Declining nurse performance due to monotony, fatigue, lack of motivation and morale will have an impact on the quality of service. The charge nurse has responsibility both physically and mentally towards the success of work activities as well as the performance of the members. Charge nurse’s leadership is needed to improve nurse performance. Caring leadership is a leadership style that can facilitate the needs of nurses so that it will improve performance, but not all leaders are able to implement the caring leadership. One of the techniques that can be used to develop leadership competencies is mentoring. The intervention of caring leadership mentoring is used as a medium to foster the spirit of caring leadership of the charge nurse. The method used in this study is case reporting. This case report explains about the caring leadership mentoring interventions that can help the charge nurse to be able to apply caring leadership especially in leading nursing activities in an inpatient room. The sample in the study was the charge nurse in the inpatient room for internal disease. The results of the study showed that caring leadership mentoring was effective to be used to improve the ability of the charge nurse to implement caring leadership. It is recommended that this mentoring activity of caring leadership to be carried out periodically and consistently for all the charge nurse in the hospital.
The ability to make ethical problem decisions is a requirement for nurses to carry out the professional nursing practice. Decision making is a systematic approach to resolve a problem. World Health Institution in 2017 identified 98.000 patients died every year because of bad decision making. One strategy in the transformation of organizations in health services today is empowerment. Empowerment is a leadership design that can influence a nurse in decision making. The study aims to know the influence of empowerment leadership on the nurse’s decision making. The method in this paper is a literature review. Search for research articles using a database of sciences from Google Scholar, Science Directs, Clinical Key and the final results found 10 articles to be reviewed. Results: 5 empowerment resources can be used by nurses in improving decision making. The empowerment that contains reward, coercive, expert, referent, and legitimate can be used by nurses in improving decision making Result: 5 sources of empowerment can be used by nurses in improving decision making. The empowerment that contains reward, coercive, expert, referent, and legitimate can be used by nurses in improving decision making. Empowerment leadership style can be an alternative way to improve the quality of nurse decision making. Reward and coercive can influence experience, an expert can influence facts and rational, a referent can affect intuition, and legitimate can affect authority.
Perawat sebagai petugas yang langsung memberikan pelayanan kepada pasien, diharapkan mampu mengembangkan dan memelihara prosedur pemberian obat yang aman guna memberikan pelayanan dan proteksi terbaik bagi pasien. Studi menunjukan rendahnya kepatuhan perawat terkait penerapan prinsip enam benar pemberian obat. Ketidakpatuhan ini akan berdampak pada panjangnya lama rawat, biaya perawatan semakin bertambah, keracunan dan alergi terhadap obat, muntah hingga yang terburuk dapat menyebabkan kematian. Tujuan studi ini adalah mengidentifikasi faktor yang meningkatkan kepatuhan perawat dalam penerapan prinsip enam benar pemberian obat. Studi ini menggunakan metode Systematic Literatur Review dilaksanakan guna menelusuri berbagai faktor yang meningkatkan kepatuhan perawat dalam pemberian obat. Data yang diambil adalah artikel seputar enam benar prinsip pemberian obat dan faktor yang meningkatkan kepatuhan perawat. Data ditelusuri dari sumber terpercaya dalam Bahasa Inggris dan Indonesia dengan rentang penerbitan 2004 – 2019. Data yang terkumpul dilakukan critical appraisal tool sesuai dengan tujuan yang ingin dicapai menjadi 9. Hasil sintesa menunjukan terdapat beberapa faktor yang meningkatkan kepatuhan perawat dalam pemberian obat yaitu pengetahuan dan sikap yang baik, pengawasan dan supervise yang baik dari ketua tim ataupun kepala ruangan, adanya SOP dan fasilitas pemberian obat yang memadai, motivasi perawat yang baik, pendidikan yang lebih tinggi, adanya sosialisasi dari kepala ruang tentang penerapan prinsip enam benar pemberian obat 6 kali dalam setahun, frekuensi audit dilakukan secara berkelanjutan 4 kali internal dan 2 kali eksternal, beban kerja yang tidak terlalu berlebihan serta perawat yang bekerja sudah lama. Faktor yang dapat meningkatkan kepatuhan perawat dalam penerapan prinsip enam benar pemberian obat adalah tingkat pengetahuan, sikap, supervisi, fasilitas pemberian obat, ketersediaan SOP, motivasi, pendidikan, sosialisasi, frekuensi audit, beban kerja dan lama kerja.
