Purpose: The concept of social innovation as open, collaborative and social transformation process opens room to reinforce the need of legitimizing social impact businesses and of expanding partnerships for social change, as well as the urgency of establishing professional and more sustainable social innovation environments. Accordingly, we tried to answer the following research question: How can social business performance boost the development of social innovations?Design/methodology/approach: Therefore, we adopted the inductive approach of qualitative paradigm, based on the Grounded Theory, to investigate 24 social businesses. In addition, we adopted the Atlas.ti software for data organization and recovery.Aggregate results allowed us to propose a descriptive model of sustainable performance for the development of social innovations in social business, based on the following propositions: sustainable performance in processes and social innovation, the prevalence of a cooperative environment to solve social issues, professional governance as causal factor to social innovation development, the development of actions focused on public interests as influencing conditions for social innovation development, technical and scientific evaluation of social impacts as strategy to measure the outcomes of developed innovations and the expansion of social impacts as the consequence of the self-negotiation of social affairs.Originality/value: A descriptive model of sustainable acting was proposed for the development of social innovations in social businesses.
Social entrepreneurs convert social problems into opportunities, create businesses, and transform entrepreneurial experience into social changes. Therefore, it is important to understand the formation of social entrepreneurs as creators of social innovations. This chapter tries to understand how the formation of social entrepreneurs occurs. The authors analyzed the narratives of the life stories of social entrepreneurs in Brazil. The results showed that the formation of social entrepreneurs is linked to their learning spaces and contexts, their leadership trajectory, and their motivations to undertake social entrepreneurship, as these factors are permeated by formal and non-formal education. The formation of social entrepreneurs results in the development of innovative products, processes, or methods that improve the quality of life and reduce inequality, leading to exponential social innovations.

Purpose of the study: To explore how the innovative entrepreneurship strategy of social entrepreneurship qualifies the offer of educational and health products and services. Methodology / approach: We adopt the qualitative research termed Grounded Theory, based on empirical data. For this purpose, we develop a didactic example, with the detailed use of the ATLAS.ti Software. The hermeneutical unit (project in ATLAS.ti) contemplated the following primary documents: (a) life stories of six social entrepreneurs; (b) reports on the development of social affairs (Cren, Cies, Geekie, Imaflora, Educar and Noos) and (c) testimonials of impacted individuals. Main results: In relation to the main results, we highlight the didactic detail on how ATLAS.ti is used to support the codings (open, axial and selective), which underpin the Grounded Theory, promoting the organization, recovery and cross-referencing of data about the strategy of the rise of innovative entrepreneurship in social affairs; Theoretical / methodological contributions: The main contribution is the proposition of a Grounded Theory alignment matrix, with detailed use of the ATLAS.ti Software, considering as a didactic example the strategy of the rise of innovative entrepreneurship in social businesses, which qualify the supply of education and health products and services. Relevance / originality: We are able to demonstrate the associations between categories and subcategories of study analysis from characteristic components of ATLAS.ti (not available in other CAQDAS), such as Code Cooccurence and Networks.
