O propósito do artigo é recuperar alguns matizes da memória ressentida de militares e golpistas de 1964, produzidas no formato de livros entre os anos oitenta e noventa do século vinte, como resposta às narrativas elaboradas pelo campo das forças democráticas de esquerda. A intenção é refletir sobre o contexto da batalha da memória no Brasil, momento em que ocorre o fim da hegemonia ou a fragilização das narrativas das vítimas e cresce o desejo de “Intervenção Militar Já”, que contamina determinados grupos sociais crentes de que a solução para a atual crise política e econômica é a escolha de novos agentes autoritários como representantes do poder.
O artigo aborda aspectos relevantes dos discursos de celebração da 'Revolução de 64', construídos pelos militares entre os anos de 1964 e 1999, através dos quais buscaram explicitar as motivações quanto à articulação do Golpe de Estado, a estruturação do regime e o seu desfecho em 1985. As matrizes discursivas assumem contornos de radicalidade ao justificarem o 31 de março em oposição à 'Revolução Comunista' que estava em curso no governo João Goulart. O material pesquisado representa um significativo 'lugar de memória', permitindo aos militares a formulação de hipóteses que pretendem, ainda hoje, legitimar uma memória positiva dos feitos 'revolucionários'. O objetivo, portanto, é analisar as concepções de história, o sentido e o caráter das comemorações, estabelecendo regularidades que possam elucidar a estruturação do pensamento anticomunista e autoritário em disputa no campo da memória por uma determinada apropriação do passado.
O propósito central do artigo é resgatar a trajetória do historiador Rafael Altamira, sobrevivente do Novo Estado espanhol que tomou o caminho do exílio no final da Guerra Civil e resistiu ao regime franquista ao longo de sua vida. O historiador esteve na mira da polícia franquista, migrou para a América, fixando-se no México como exilado e articulador da resistência no campo intelectual. Por este motivo, teve a sua produção permanentemente submetida às novas regras de publicação, incluindo tradução dos seus livros com trechos suprimidos, bem como anulação ou revalidação da sentença censória. Identificar as regras estabelecidas pelo aparato censório e o modo operativo que se configurava em proibição, liberação parcial ou total dessas obras foram objetivos que formataram a pesquisa. Com isso, asseveramos a existência de uma vigilância permanente sob tais publicações e seus respectivos autores, editores e leitores submetidos à lógica de suspeição e inculpação. Através do estudo deste caso, pretende-se evidenciar as vicissitudes de um regime ditatorial que maculou a liberdade de expressão de parte dos seus intelectuais, alguns confinados ao silêncio e autorrepressão, outros condenados à uma vida no exílio como modo de sobrevivência cultural.
