AbstractEvaluation of taper functions for diameter estimated of commercial forest species in amazon matogrossense biome. The aim of this work was to adjust, evaluate and select taper functions for estimating diameters along the stem for commercially exploited species in the Amazon Rainforest in Mato Grosso State. The research was conducted in forest management units in areas of the Amazon Rainforest, located in Santa Carmen, Mato Grosso State. To adjust the taper functions, 449 trees were cubed, of the following species: Goupia glabra, Qualea albiflora, Trattinnickia burseraefolia, Erisma uncinatam and Mezilaurus Itauba. The non-segmented models of Schöepfer (1966), Kozak et al. (1969), Hradetzky (1976), and Demaerschalk (1972), adapted for Moura (1994), and segmented model of Max e Burkhart (1976) were fitted. In order to evaluate the accuracy of adjustments we used the determination coefficient, standard error of estimate in percentage and graphical analysis of the waste, weighted value of statistical scores, and auxiliary statistics: standard deviation, standard deviation of differences, sum of squared residuals and relative percent residue. The function of taper Demaerschalk (1972) was the most accurate to estimate the diameter along the stem for forest species of Amazon Matogrossense. Such function allows to describe the shape of the stem as well as the possibility of determining assortments for multiple products of wood. Keywords: Amazon Rainforest; taper; weighted value of statistical scores.
The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of artificial neural networks (ANNs) and mixed-effects models (MEMs) in describing the stem profile of Pinus taeda L., using sample data from 246 trees. First, three taper functions of different classes were adjusted: non-segmented, segmented, and variable-form. To adjust the models, the nonlinear regression technique (nls) was used. In the best performance equation for nls-adjusted diameter estimates, the nonlinear MEM (nlme) was applied at two levels, using the age class (ci) and DBH class (cd). For this, three different study scenarios were considered, with the number of coefficients with random effects ranging from one to three in each scenario. The adjustments were made using the nls and nlme functions in R software. The selected mixed-effect equations were compared with ANNs generated in Neuro 4.0 software. The taper function models and ANNs were classified according to statistical criteria and graphical analysis of residues. The tapering equation of Bi (2000) presented better performance for diameter estimates than the non-segmented and segmented equations. Application of the nlme technique in the Bi (2000) equation increased the accuracy of the diameter estimates for Pinus taeda, in relation to the adjustment using the nls technique. In the comparison of ANNs with the variations of the Bi equation of mixed-effects, the networks performed better, indicated in the description of the P. taeda profile.
EFFECT OF SPACING AND PLANTING ARRANGEMENT ON THE HYPSOMETRIC RELATION OF EUCALYPTUS IN CONSORTIUM PRODUCTION SYSTEMS ABSTRACT: Given the importance of crop-livestock-forest integration systems (iLPF), it is essential to carry out research on height modeling to support the management and quantification of available resources. In this study, we aimed to adjust traditional models of hypsometric relation and to evaluate the effect of spacing and planting arrangements in the equations adjustment. The data were obtained from the eucalyptus trees in an integrated-crop-livestock-forest system (iCLF), in experimental areas implemented by the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa Agrossilvipastoril), located in the municipality of Sinop, northern region of Mato Grosso, Brazil. The precision and accuracy of the hypsometric models was evaluated through statistical indicators and graphic residue analysis. The influence of spacing and planting arrangement on the hypsometric relation was performed through the model identity test of Gaybiil (2000). Based on the statistics and graphical analysis the Assmann model presented better accuracy of fit for total height estimation. To estimate the commercial height, the Hyperbolic model obtained better performance. The identity test revealed that plant spacing, and arrangement influence significantly the hypsometric relationship and a single equation should not be adjusted to represent the total and commercial height in the different treatments in iCLF system. Keywords: modeling; identity test; tree height.
ABSTRACTThe Amazon rainforest presents species with high potential for sustainable exploitation of timber, however, in order to be exploited, there is a need for information to accurately estimate its volume of wood. Thus, with the hypothesis that volumes estimated by different methods and the real cubic volume are statistically the same, this study aimed to compare volumetric estimates obtained through form factor, volume models and taper function for five commercial species of Amazon rainforest. We scaled 448 trees by Smalian method to develop the form factor and adjust the volume and taper equations. We used the randomized block experimental design, where each species was considered as a block and each method of volume elaboration as a treatment. We applied an analysis of variance to verify the existence of a significant difference between the treatments and between the blocks, followed by the Tukey test for the critical level ≤ 0,05. Among the adjusted models, Schumacher-Hall was the one that presented greater precision to estimate the volume. The estimated mean form factor is 0.73. There were non-statistical differences in the volume estimation using the different methods, however, it is recommended to use the single-entry model, since the height for Amazonian species is difficult to obtain, making this method the most practical.
Para isso, foram ajustados os modelos ABSTRACTThe management of forests by natural regeneration may have different bole profiles of individuals from plantings by seedlings and sowing. In this way, the objective of this work was to adjust models of tapering functions for stands of Pinus elliottii Engelm. from natural regeneration conduction, in order to identify the best fit and to verify if the origin of the individuals negatively affects the statistical regression indicators. In order to do this, the models of the tapering function proposed by Kozak et al., Max & Burkhart, Schöepfer and Hradetzky were adjusted for a database of 289 trees cubed by the Smalian method, of which 40 samples were used to validate the best equation adjusted. The evaluation of the equations tested was performed using the adjusted coefficient of determination ( we can observe that the application of tapering models for stands of Pinus elliottii from natural regeneration is feasible.
