Chemistry teachers increasingly use research articles in their undergraduate courses. This trend arises from current pedagogical emphasis on active learning and scientific process. In this paper, we describe some educational experiences on the use of research articles in chemistry higher education. Additionally, we present our own conclusions on the use of such methodology applied to a scientific communication course offered to undergraduate chemistry students at the University of São Paulo, Brazil.
A primeira categoria permitiu identificar as características do mestrado profissional quanto à estrutura curricular, corpo docente e projetos formativos.
Existe um código desses discursos, existem normas para essas práticas, aos quais devem obedecer esses discursos e essas práticas."Michel Foucault Orlandi, specifically according to the concepts of discourse typology and authorship. The results of the analysis related to typology demonstrate that in the conversations between supervisors and students carried out in the laboratory there is a transition from a predominantly authoritarian discourse to a polemical discourse. According to the authorship, we realized that in the production of the research report there was the exercise of empirical and formal repetition, beside that, the use of historical repetition which demonstrates the author's positions occupied by the students. We also observed in the preparation of work for congresses, that the use of different types of scientific statements indicated the adequate use of scientific language. Therefore, this research leads us to conscientiousness about the influence of Undergraduate Research in the appropriation of scientific language and indicated that this process occurred through the exchange among groups, the imitation of patterns and mainly the research experience. Background-This study explores health provider and patient attitudes toward the use of a cardiovascular polypill as a health service strategy to improve cardiovascular prevention. Methods and Results-In-depth, semistructured interviews (n=94) were conducted with health providers and patients from Australian general practice, Aboriginal community-controlled and government-run Indigenous Health Services participating in a pragmatic randomized controlled trial evaluating a polypill-based strategy for high-risk primary and secondary cardiovascular disease prevention. Interview topics included polypill strategy acceptability, factors affecting adherence, and trial implementation. Transcribed interview data were analyzed thematically and interpretively. Polypill patients commented frequently on cost-savings, ease, and convenience of a daily-dosing pill. Most providers considered a polypill strategy to facilitate improved patient medication use. Indigenous Health Services providers and indigenous patients thought the strategy acceptable and beneficial for indigenous patients given the high disease burden. Providers noted the inflexibility of the fixed dose regimen, with dosages sometimes inappropriate for patients with complex management considerations. Future polypill formulations with varied strengths and classes of medications may overcome this barrier. Many providers suggested the polypill strategy, in its current formulations, might be more suited to high-risk primary prevention patients. Conclusions-The polypill strategy was generally acceptable to patients and providers in cardiovascular prevention.Limitations to provider acceptability of this particular polypill were revealed, as was a perception it might be more suitable for high-risk primary prevention patients, though future combinations could facilitate its use in secondary prevention. Participants suggested a polypill-based strategy as particularly appropriate for lowering the high cardiovascular burden in indigenous populations. Despite strong community and health service support, major investments in time and resources are needed to ensure successful implementation and minimal disruption to already overstretched, routine services. Trial budgets will necessarily be inflated as a result. Funding agencies need to consider these additional resource demands when supporting trials of a similar nature.
This research aimed to understand the possible relationships established (agreements and disagreements, consonances and dissonances) between students and institution. In order to accomplish that goal we analyze on one hand the trajectory of the institution and its institutional arrangements and, on the other hand, the school history and heritage (cultural, economic and social) and students' dispositions. The case study is based on different data and analyzes that aim to capture the learning experience as a whole: using interviews with teachers and document analysis we reconstructed the institution history seeking for unveil its institutional arrangements; we performed statistical analyzes on the undergraduate students profiles and the attrition at that institution; we discuss the interviews with 27 undergraduate students transformed into sociological portraits, trying to organize their academic trajectories according to their integration into the institution. The main institutional arrangements present in various stages of institutional development point to the importance of research, the union between the faculty members, the pursuit of autonomy and isolation and the community outreach projects as a form of institutional marketing. The profile shows that many of the students who enroll in the teacher training course rather have joined the bachelor, however, contrary to expectations, the institution have lower dropout rates. The portraits show a predominance of paths that combines social and academic integration, favored by a 'fit' of the above dispositions updated in college. This framework results in a distinguished course in which the hidden curriculum plays a fundamental role in teacher training and in promoting a sociology of transformation, in which undergraduates with recognized less privileged socioeconomic profile conclude the course with the same career prospects of the bachelors. In general, the IC promotes many diversified initiatives to training the undergraduate students, but the institution does not seem to realize that the differential training is offered through the entire group of activities. We conclude presenting several possibilities for improving the training of undergraduates.
