Palavras-chave: Carboidratos, Citrus sinensis, crescimento vegetativo, limoeiro 'Cravo', 'Trifoliata', trocas gasosas.( The growth and distribution of the root system affect the response of the plants to water deficit. This work aim at the to evaluation of 'Valencia' orange budded on 'Rangpur´ lime and Poncirus trifoliata ('Trifoliata') as to root growth, gas exchange (CO 2 and H 2 O), leaf water potential and distribution of carbohydrates in several organs, in plants submitted to water deficit. Plants were transplanted to 32 rizotrons, which allowed root visualization of the roots. Sixteen plants in each rootstock were submitted to irrigation and the other 16 remained without irrigation. Water deficit was induced withholding the water supply. Stomatal conductance declined after the fourth day without irrigation, causing a reduction of the photosynthesis, the transpiration and the carboxilation efficiency. The total carbohydrate content (sucrose + reducing sugars + starch) in plants without water stress was greater in 'Trifoliata', and among the water deficit treatments it was always less. The dry phytomass of the plants without water deficit was greater in both rootstocks. Among the irrigated and non irrigated treatments, the length of the roots same of rootstocks was similar. However, the root lengths of plants on 'Rangpur´ lime were significantly greater than that on 'Trifoliata'. Even under water deficit and great decrease of the photosynthetic production, the roots maintained growth, ...
Palavras-chave: cana-de-açúcar, chuva, bioensaio, herbicidas.ABSTRACT -The objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of rainfall on leaching of herbicides recommended for sugarcane crop in Dystrophic Red Latosol. The experiment consisted in spraying trifloxysulfuron-sodium + ametryn (1463 + 37 g ha -1 ), imazapic (84 g ha -1 ), imazapyr (200 g ha ) on top of PVC columns filled with soil. After spraying, simulated rainfall of 20, 40 and 80 mm was applied on top of the columns. Cucumis sativus (cucumber) was used in bioassays to detect herbicide leaching, with evaluations accomplished 14 and 21 days after application of the treatments. After a 20 mm rainfall simulation, it was verified that the trifloxysulfuron-sodim + ametrin mixtures caused decreasing symptoms of toxicity in the 0 to 20 cm plantules, while the other herbicides had an effect up to 10 cm. The 40 mm rainfall made the mixtures 1,2 diuron + hexazinone cause severe symptoms in the cucumber plants at 15 cm depth and decreasing symptoms at depths of 20 cm (formulation 2) and 25 cm (formulation 1). The herbicides trifloxysulfurom sodium + ametryn and imazapyr were detected up to 20 cm of depth. The herbicide imazapic caused toxicity up to 15 cm of depth. At 80 mm rainfall,
In an attempt to understand quasi-static delamination growth under mixed mode loading conditions from a physics-based perspective, this work first evaluated cracking in isotropic materials. The critical Strain Energy Density (SED) approach is adopted, because physically the onset of crack growth is expected to occur when the energy available near the crack tip reaches a critical value. The main hypothesis of the present paper is that the critical SED for onset of crack growth is constant for a given material, and independent of the loading mode. The relationship derived from this hypothesis therefore relates the physical onset of crack growth and the angle at which that occurs for any opening mode through the SED. To test this hypothesis, results from literature were taken and shear fracture tests on foam specimens were performed, which both were compared with the derived relationship. The excellent correlation demonstrated the validity of the physics-based relationship, which explains the observed differences between mode I and mode II fracture toughnesses and illustrates why concepts like the Stress Intensity Factor (SIF) alone are insufficient to explain the observations. The developed relationship allows to derive the mode II fracture toughness from mode I fracture toughness tests and the material's mechanical properties.
Palavras-chave: cobertura morta, amendoim-bravo, controle químico , Saccharum spp. ( 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 t ha -1 ABSTRACT -This work aimed to study the effect of different amounts
Nitrogen fertilization is challenging for sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) producers due to its complex interaction with the crop and soil. Th us, the main goal of this study was to develop a feasible approach to guide variable-rate N application in sugarcane based on canopy sensor readings. Th is study was conducted for 5 yr. Several plot and strip N-rate experiments were conducted under a wide range of crop conditions in Brazil and evaluated with the Crop Circle active canopy sensor (Holland Scientifi c Inc.). Because of variability in crop density and growth development within sugarcane fi elds, the use of an N-rich reference area to estimate the crop response to N application was compromised. Biomass was the main crop parameter infl uencing canopy sensor readings, allowing yield estimation because biomass typically results in stalk yield. Th us, canopy sensor readings can effi ciently predict relative sugarcane yield when working with data that are normalized to the mean for the fi eld. Hence, an algorithm that takes into account this relationship was established. Th e concept of this algorithm is to apply higher N fertilization rates where the sugarcane yield potential is higher. Such an approach was determined to be useful to guide N application in sugarcane fi elds. Nevertheless, fi eld validation is needed to confi rm this N management strategy. Besides, more information about sugarcane biomass variability within fi elds may be required to increase algorithm effi ciency.
