The esophagus is a muscular tube whose function is to transport food from the mouth to the stomach and basically contain the same layers as the rest of the digestive tract. The morphological knowledge of structures involved in basic physiological processes in organisms is extremely important in the acquisition of ecological and evolutionary knowledge about species. This study produces morphological information proving the structures found in the green turtle's esophagus. The animals were dissected according to the methodology used by Wyneken, allowing analysis of external and internal morphological characteristics of the esophagus. The samples were processed for microscopic analysis by light and scanning electron microscopy. It was observed that the esophagus presents thin and conical dermal papillae facing the stomach throughout the mucosa to the gastroesophageal portion, decreasing its size at the end of its extension, covered by a thick keratin layer on keratinized pavement epithelial tissue. It is concluded that the esophagus of Chelonia mydas is covered by a layer of conical keratinized dermal papillae important to exert the mechanical and protective function of the mucosa of this organ, considering that the feeding of these animals is extremely abrasive, besides serving as protection so that the food does not return.

In chelonians, the gastrointestinal tract is anatomically diverse among the large variety of reptiles, and this fact requires further studies to understand their particularities. For that, four green turtles were used to find beached dead, for macroscopic and microscopic analysis using light and scanning microscopy in search of the description of their morphology. The tongue presented as a non-protuberant organ, with a rigid and highly keratinized aspect. Concluding that the morphological structure of the turtle's tongue is adapted according to its abrasive feeding during capture and swallowing of the food.

Paiche (Arapaima gigas) belongs to the Kingdom Animalia, Phylum Chordata, Class Actinopterygii, Order Osteoglossiformes, Family Arapaimidae, Genus Arapaima, and its origin may date to the Jurassic period. The species has natural habitat in the Amazonian rivers, found mainly in marginal lakes, being considered an important fishing resource, with high market value and high demand for meat and leather in both Brazilian and international trade. This study aims to report the morphology of the esophagus and stomach by light microscopy and scanning electronics microscopy. The esophagus was presented as muscular, short, tubular and fan-shaped in the cranial portion, also presenting deep longitudinal folds, and the entire mucosa is covered by mucus secretory cells with distinct morphological characteristics. Pirarurcu’s stomach has a J-shape divided into three regions: cardiac with a lighter aspect, fundus portion with few folds in the mucosa, and pyloric with deeper folds, also presenting gastroliths in fundus and pyloric portions. Both microscopy studies highlighted three glandular regions, composed by mucoid columnar epithelial cells, gastric crypts with different shapes and sizes depending on each portion, in which the different shapes of the mucosal folds in each region of the stomach were evident, and digitiform microsaliences were found in the cardiac region, and micro-orifices and desmosome in the fundus region. Also, fundus and pyloric portions produce more mucus than the cardiac. Then morphology found was consistent with the eating habits and management of distinct characteristics of the digestive tract.

Record of morphological abnormality in embryos of Caribbean sharpnose shark, Rhizoprionodon porosus (Elasmobranchii, Carcharhinidae), from the south coast of São Paulo State, Brazil Registro de anomalia em embriões de cação frango-Rhizoprionodon Porosus na região sul de São Paulo (Elasmobranchii carcharhinidae) no Brasil

O Notorynchus cepedianus pertencente à família Hexanchidae (cação-sete-guelras), é uma espécie de rara ocorrência e está distribuído nas zonas tropicais a temperadas dos três oceanos, comumente encontrado em águas costeiras, baías e estuários, presente de zero a 570 m, normalmente a 80 m de profundidade, e pode atingir três metros de comprimento total. O cação-bruxa está listado como Criticamente em Perigo pelo ICMBio e IUCN, apesar do cadastro na categoria DD (Dados Deficientes), por falta de informações. Existem registros anteriores de N. cepedianus no litoral paulista, o primeiro registro ocorreu com uma fêmea capturada na região de Cananéia (1968) e o segundo uma fêmea com embriões no litoral paulista (1999). O exemplar deste estudo foi capturado em rede-de-emalhe da pesca artesanal, a 10 km da costa de Peruíbe, em junho de 2016 e doado ao projeto SOS tubarões do Instituto de Biologia Marinha e Meio Ambiente - IBIMM, localizado no bairro do Guaraú, cidade de Peruíbe, litoral Sul de SP, sendo esse o primeiro registro de ocorrência desta espécie na região. O peixe foi identificado como fêmea cação-sete-guelras, Notorynchus cepedianus, com 80 cm de comprimento total e 1,8 kg. O animal apresentou no conteúdo estomacal dois otólitos de peixe ósseo, sendo que na literatura consta que a espécie possui hábito alimentar variado. Os juvenis se alimentam principalmente de teleósteos e com o crescimento à medida que se desenvolvem, modificam seu hábito alimentar tornando-os mais complexos, se alimentando basicamente de teleósteos, crustáceos, cefalópodes, lobos-marinhos, pequenos cetáceos, raias, quimeras e tubarões.
