A B S T R A C TArugula is a vegetable that has gained more highlight in the consumption, being rich in potassium, sulfur, iron, omega-3 and vitamins A and C. Availability of water and nutrients are limiting factors for production of this crop. In this context, the objective of this study was to evaluate the production of arugula subjected to different irrigation depths and potassium fertilization. The experiment was conduct between August and September 2015. The experimental design was completely randomized in split-plot scheme. Irrigation depths L 1 , L 2 , L 3 and L 4 (25, 50, 75 and 100% of crop evapotranspiration, respectively) represented the plots and potassium doses K 1 and K 2 (200 and 400 kg ha -1 , respectively) represented the subplots. Although the highest yield was obtained with highest irrigation depth and highest potassium dose, it is recommended the cultivation of arugula with the lowest irrigation depth and the lowest potassium dose, considering the higher value of water use efficiency for this treatment.
Performance of the irrigameter in management of irrigation in the Jaíba Irrigated Perimeter, MG, Brazil ABSTRACTThe objective of this study was to determine the coefficient of irrigameter device (KI) and to assess its performance in the irrigation of sunflower. The experiment was conducted in the Jaíba Irrigated Perimeter, Jaíba, MG, located at 15° 36' S and 43° 42' W, with an altitude of 460 m. For the evaluation of the performance of the irrigameter, the water level in the evaporimeter was kept at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 cm high, and the evapotranspiration estimated by the irrigameter was compared to the reference evapotranspiration, calculated by the standard method Penman-Monteith FAO 56 (Allen et al., 1998). It was concluded that the values of KI obtained were 0.42, 0.69, 0.85, 1.07, 1.34 and 1.61 for the water levels in the evaporimeter corresponding to 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 cm, respectively. There was no significant difference between the yield of sunflower crop irrigated during day or night time; higher average values then reported by the literature were found. The irrigameter device was found to be satisfactory for irrigation control. To estimate the reference evapotranspiration in similar regions with similar climatic conditions, it is recommended to use the unit with evaporimeter adjusted to the level 3.7 cm.Keywords: irrigated agriculture, productivity of sunflower, irrigation efficiency.OLIVEIRA, E. A B S T R A C TDue to the socioeconomic importance of common bean in Brazil, studies that allow establishing favorable conditions for not compromising the crop with white mold, in view of the enormous damages caused by this fungus, become vital to Brazilian agriculture. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the incidence and severity of white mold in common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), cultivar 'Madrepérola' , subjected to different irrigation intervals, planting densities and fungicide application. The research was conducted in Viçosa-MG, Brazil, in the years 2011 and 2012. The statistical analysis used the splitsplit-plot scheme. The fungicide applications (with or without fungicide) were allocated to plots, the irrigation intervals (3, 6, 9 and 12 days) to sub-plots and planting densities (6, 9, 12 and 15 plants per linear meter) to sub-subplots, in a randomized block design with three replicates. The variation of the irrigation intervals did not contribute significantly to the control of white mold. It is recommended to use lower planting densities in order to minimize the damages caused by the disease. The use of the fungicide was the main method of white mold control in two consecutive years.
Despite the shortage of water resources be evident worldwide, turning prosperous lands into unproductive and affecting the existence of humidity, there is a great fraction of producers who still do not implement the proper management of the irrigation water in their properties. The poor management of irrigation is still a reality for most of the producers located in Brazil Middle Cerrado, which continue irrigating the tomato crop using empirical methods, resulting in economic, environmental and social damage. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of different irrigation depths and different times of suspension in irrigation during the ripening stage in tomato in productivity and quality of fruit for processing. The experiment was conducted under a Center pivot irrigation system and a split plot experimental design. The study showed that the higher irrigation depth (100% of ETc) resulted in higher yield (104 t ha -1 ) with lower soluble solids. The irrigation suspension at the beginning of fruit maturation increased soluble solids accumulation (4.2°Brix), providing higher quality and production of fruits to tomato industry.
The demand for healthier foods has been increasing worldwide. Associated with this trend, it is crucial to optimize the use of inputs for ensuring the sustainability of production. The fruits of tomato are important sources of minerals, vitamins, and especially of carotenoids such as the lycopene. This carotenoid plays biological activities that are crucial such as the antioxidant function, besides its proven action in the prevention of cancers and degenerative diseases. The irrigation seems to play a fundamental role in the biosynthesis of lycopene. Thus, it is fundamental to establish levels of irrigation that might provide higher content of lycopene, productivity, and efficiency in the use of water in the production of tomato. The objective of this study was to establish adequate levels of irrigation for the obtainment of higher content of lycopene, productivity of fruits, and higher efficiency in the use of water in the production of salad tomato. For this, two experiments were carried in different cropping seasons. The treatments consisted of the application of four irrigation depths, corresponding to 50, 100, 150 and 200% of the tomato evapotranspiration. The estimates of maximum productivity corresponded to the application of the irrigation depth of 112% ETc, while the maximum content of lycopene and the higher efficiency in the use of water corresponded to 50% ETc. The irrigation depth of 100% ETc is recommended as the best irrigation depth to obtain higher content of lycopene, productivity, and efficiency in the use of water jointly.

WATER REQUIREMENT OF SUGARCANE IN NORTHWEST STATE OF SÃO PAULO 2 ABSTRACT The knowledge of the water needs of crops is essential, because in this way, the rational water management can be achieved - increasingly indispensable due to water scarcity. The objective of this work was to estimate the evapotranspiration (ETc) of the sugarcane crop and thus obtain the water need, per crop, in the Northwest region of state of São Paulo. The work was performed out in two commercial farms, in the municipalities of Andradina and Rubineia. In the first farm, total ETc values were estimated for the 2013/2014, 2014/2015, 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 seasons. In the second farm, ETc values were estimated for the 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 seasons. The water needs along of the seasons presented different values for the two farms analyzed, with extreme values of 1095 mm/crop for the commercial farm in Rubineia and 1595 mm/crop for the commercial farm in Andradina. The variation of the water need among the farms occurred due to the crop cycle, the days needed to reach the sugarcane cut-off date, and the reference evapotranspiration (ETo) values. The correct understanding and application of the values of crop coefficient (Kc) and of ETo made it possible to estimate the water need of sugarcane in the northwestern region of state of São Paulo. GIOVANELLI, L. METEOROLOGICAL ELEMENTS ON EVAPOTRANSPIRATION ESTIMATED BY IRRIGAMETER 2 ABSTRACT Irrigameter is a device used in water management for irrigation that is able to directly estimate crop evapotranspiration. This estimate depends on weather elements and their interrelations associated with the correct device setting. In this context, this research aimed to evaluate the effects of maximum and minimum air temperature, average relative air humidity, average wind speed, and global solar radiation on evapotranspiration estimated by Irrigameter (ETI) under Southern Tocantins, Brazil, climatic conditions,, operating at different water heights inside the evaporator according to the season of the year. The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design with six water heights in the evaporator as treatments with three replicates. Meteorological elements involved were obtained in an automatic meteorological station. Relative humidity and solar radiation showed a high correlation with evapotranspiration estimated by Irrigameter in all seasons of the year. On the other hand, the minimum temperature and the wind speed had little effect on the ETI. Keywords: irrigated agriculture, irrigation management, agricultural meteorology.
