"Meio quilo de gente" um estudo antropológico sobre ultrassom obstétrico
Resumo Recentemente, o chamado “parto humanizado” tem sido objeto de inúmeros estudos, configurando um movimento social que se expressa publicamente contra o parto hospitalar tradicional, incentivando o uso de práticas “humanizadas” que seriam mais adequadas à fisiologia do parto. Neste trabalho discutimos a forma como esta proposta de um novo modo de parir se articula com uma interpretação renovada da dor do parto. Para nossa análise, utilizamos entrevistas, aulas de capacitação para doulas, blogs, sites, vídeos, filmes e um e-book. Nosso foco prioritário foi o material acessado através da internet, já que boa parte das informações e reivindicações associadas ao movimento circula em redes virtuais. Observamos como o ideário do parto humanizado caracteriza-se por fazer determinadas bricolagens: entre ciência e concepções alternativas do mundo; entre tradição e modernidade. Procuramos mostrar como a dor, ressignificada nesse ideário, torna-se uma componente intrínseca da experiência de dar à luz, e é um valor fundante da nova identidade da mulher-mãe.
O ultra-som obstétrico sofreu uma transformação peculiar no Brasil, sendo uma tecnologia de imagem médica que progressivamente transformou-se em uma modalidade de 'consumo' e 'lazer'. Analisa-se a produção de 'verdades' construídas durante exames de ultra-som, calcadas nas crenças médicas e não-médicas acerca da 'objetividade' da imagem técnica. Baseia-se em material etnográfico obtido em clínicas de imagem do Rio de Janeiro. Os exames de ultra-som sublinham a questão da subjetividade/objetividade presente em todas as tecnologias de imageamento médico, por ser uma tecnologia dinâmica e interativa. Durante os exames os atores são agentes ativos, produzindo e reproduzindo 'verdades' médicas e não-médicas sobre a gravidez e o feto. Essas 'verdades' desempenham papel relevante no processo em que, simultaneamente, é reconfigurada a gravidez, o feto é subjetivado e uma prática médica se transforma em espetáculo. Essa produção funciona como um mecanismo de realimentação, reassegurando os atores acerca da saúde da gestante e do feto e, ao mesmo tempo, reafirmando o lugar da tecnologia de imagem médica como produtora privilegiada de verdades sobre os corpos.
Este artigo discute como as tecnologias de imagem - em especial as aplicadas à medicina, ao longo do século XX - interagem com a cultura visual, e como, a partir desta articulação dinâmica são reconfigurados - entre outros aspectos - o corpo e a Pessoa. Do mesmo modo que outras atividades humanas, a visualidade é informada e configurada pelo contexto sociocultural e histórico na qual é vivenciada. Nas últimas décadas do século XX, com a difusão da tecnologia computacional, emergem novos paradigmas informados pela digitalização da informação e da imagem. Em conjunto com as tecnologias visuais, outras áreas da ciência, em especial a genética, têm desempenhado papel significativo para novas construções sociais, aqui abordadas de passagem, como tentativa de expor parte da complexa situação na qual ocorrem as reconfigurações do corpo e da Pessoa.
Resumo A partir de etnografias realizadas em serviços públicos e privados do Rio de Janeiro, sustentamos que a difusão do fenômeno de (bio)medicalização varia de acordo com o estrato social das gestantes, produzindo corpos fetais e gestantes, assim como processos gestacionais, totalmente diversos, dependendo da camada social das mulheres atendidas. Tomando a premissa fundamental de que a biomedicalização consiste em uma transformação no processo de medicalização pela incorporação crescente da tecnociência à biomedicina, o universo observado evidencia diferentes estágios dessa transformação, acompanhando, de modo consistente, a estratificação social das grávidas submetidas ao exame de ultrassom.
