Objetivo: selecionar os principais determinantes do comportamento sedentário ao longo da vida presentes na literatura nos últimos 10 anos. Métodos: a revisão teve como questão norteadora: “Quais os determinantes do comportamento sedentário ao longo da vida evidenciados pela literatura? ”. A busca foi realizada em junho de 2017, nas bases de dados Science Direct, PUBMED, Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS) e Scielo, utilizando os descritores: “Sedentary Lifestyle”, “Behavior”, “Health”, “Exercise” e “determining”. Foram encontrados 498 trabalhos e após a leitura e avaliação dos artigos, foram selecionados 13 manuscritos. Resultados: Os artigos foram alocados em quatro grupos: Determinantes do CS relacionados à exposição por longos períodos de tempo de tela; a fatores emocionais e sociais; a fatores físicos e a estrutura adequada e conhecimento de profissionais da saúde relacionado a atividade física. Os determinantes encontrados foram: falta de tempo, uso de computador, videogame, televisão, tempo de leitura, infraestrutura inadequada, gênero, envelhecimento, distúrbios psicológicos, massa corporal, tabagismo, hábitos alimentares, motivação intrínseca, gravidez e profissionais de saúde com preparo inadequado quanto a orientações dessa temática para a população. Conclusão: É necessária mudança nesse panorama atual e mais estudos devem ser realizados sobre essa temática, uma vez que, são vários os fatores que influenciam o CS.
